How she became lost is a mystery, this town is so small. But all the alleyways look the same and appear to be spawning or cloning themselves. She swears she's been down this one before... twice, maybe. Her new foster mom is going to be so pissed off about how late she is.
"You pissed someone off? Can't imagine it."
"It's a hidden talent."
"So, what. You're the welcoming committee, the recruiter? What do you do, exactly; what do you want?
"I'm your Watcher. We're short staffed; I can provide backup for my words but don't have a large organization in my pocket. I'll be training you, teaching you about assorted things that go bump in the night. I'd like to be able to work with you on that, though we can keep doing this until you'd survive a demonic encounter if you'd rather."
"Is that likely? Demonic encounters."
"In Sunnydale? Yeah. Welcome to the Hellmouth. It gets worse."
"Is that the official town slogan? What does it even mean?"
"It should be. And Sunnydale sits on the creatively named Hellmouth, which is a portal to the Hell dimensions. Hellmouths attract assholes and apocalypses like flies to a corpse."
"...why do people live here?"
"Eh, they also live in New Jersey, so."
That gets a laugh out of her. "How did you find me; or do I give out major Supergirl vibes?"
"The Watchers have ways of tracking people who're likely to have some powerset or another, that works better once something manifests - though we're not the only ones who can do that."
"Should I be shopping around for non-Watcher types, then?"
"Not everyone who can do that is friendly. A lot aren't. But allies outside of the Council will only benefit you."
"Sounds... like not fun at all. What do you want from me exactly? To fight demons?"
"It's what the Council wants. That, and you to help with periodic apocalypse aversion. I'd rather you stay alive; you'll get better, more powerful as you age, anyways."
"I guess that's okay? It's not like I'm gonna ignore the apocalypse or people dying around me."
"Good on you. Still, if I tell you something's too dangerous, at least try to listen - I'm a reckless bitch so that's unlikely to come up unless it's serious."
"Yeah, I don't wanna die and I'm not an idiot. I'll listen."
"Good. We should set a time to meet up for training."
"Do you have a space for that?"
"Yeah." She rattles off an address. "It's a dojo, even. Did the old woman who runs it a few favors and now I get it during off-times. If you really impress me I'll bring in grandma to beat you up."
"I'll totally let grandma beat me up. Gotta keep my enormous ego in check somehow."
She smiles a bit. "I'll hold you to that."
She smiles at her, charmed. "Are you a Supergirl too? You're strong."
