"… Unless Norma has something I think we have to go for another expedition? Or if the shiny thing counts."

"Shiny thing?"

"Thing the vampire dropped – not from the cave, like originally, I don't think, but probably passed through it and is maybe useful?"

"Ooh yeah that could work."

"Norma?"

Ring!

Sadde and Willow light up the candles and put a bunch of ingredients in the middle of the circle.

"Okay, now you repeat stuff after us, alright?"

Theo nods.

"Sure!" says Eva.

So they start chanting ominously in Latin, with appropriate pauses for the others to repeat.

Ominous Latin!

After a bit of ominous Latin they all feel—something, like a wave of breathlessness running through their heart—there's a flash of light—the ingredients burn up—and then all they have left is the ring and the crystal.

"That was a – uh – rush?"

"Yeah, the spell sacrificed a bit of breath and orientation."

"… Well I'm not usually lacking for breath so I should be fine."

"– Shiny thing should point cave-wards, then? Or only if we're in the cave system?"

"When we're there it will help guide us."

Eva nods. Then, of Norma, she asks, "Do we want to go now, or do we – keep doing crosses for a bit, do that nearer sundown? I'm not sure we'll actually be able to do much when we're there, and we'll probably be attacked by vampires en route."

"It might be best for your friends to continue working on the crosses while you and I go explore the cave systems. If we find them before sunset we might be able to prevent them from turning the Anointed One and avert the prophecy."

"Just casually try to take down some ridiculous number of vampires to save the world," says Eva. "Right."

Sigh. "Yeah, sounds good."

"That was part of the job description, yes."

"I was hoping I'd have some more prep time before setting myself against anything like this."

"Yes, there usually are not that many prophecies, but this was unlucky timing."

"I feel so fortunate," she sighs. "Anyway, let's go?"

"Yes."

Off they go.
