For once, someone seems genuinely happy to see Azula. She waves and grins like one would at an old friend they trust and don't fear.
Azula raises an eyebrow.
And Zaia–doesn't run up to her, exactly, but doesn't exactly not do that either. "I haven't seen you in ages, how are you doing?"
"I'm well, of course."
Nodnodnod! "You look great, too."
"I see you're not blind."
"Not even a little bit," she agrees. "You're always gorgeous."
"Yes, I know. Are you here just to tell me things I already know?"
"I wasn't here to talk to you at all, actually, but I'm glad I ran into you. I don't know anyone here except you."
"I don't believe I know you."
"We went to school together? I'm Zaia."
"Oh, I see. I must have forgotten all about you."
"Oh. Well, that's okay, we didn't talk much there anyway."
"No, we certainly didn't. And yet you seem to think I want to talk to you now."
"Listen. I'm going to give you some advice. You don't need a reason to want to talk to me. I'm going to be Firelord someday. You, however, are nobody in particular. So why should I want to talk to you?"
"I don't care that you're going to be Firelord? I mean, I do, it's cool, but it's not why I want to talk to you. And obviously you don't have to talk to me, but I don't think you need a reason to? It sounds kind of lonely to need reasons to talk to people."
"So many people want to talk to me that I have to filter them somehow. I suppose you wouldn't know what that's like."
She shrugs. "I don't really have to talk to people for political reasons or anything, so I just talk to people that I want to talk to."
"I suppose being entirely unimportant has some benefits."
"Yeah. I don't envy your spotlight, that's for sure."
"It's always nice when people know their place."
"Sure, but you can't tell me it isn't awful being all constrained like that. I can't even imagine trying to keep up with it all."
"Well, of course you can't. You weren't born for it."
"I don't think people are as different as all that. Maybe some people need more space to breathe than others, but we all need to breathe, you know?"
"Of course I know that."
