She sees the snake coming long before it reaches her but she doesn't bother to move. She's not the kind of person that giant weird snakes are interested in; it'll be here for her siblings and they can take care of themselves.

It's definitely heading towards her, though, but that's probably some sort of mistake. She's not special or interesting or probably even a good bargaining chip. She's not worth anything.

But the snake comes right up to her anyway and she's confused instead of scared and then she's somewhere else entirely.

So she's dreaming. This doesn't happen to ordinary people.

She'll find herself in a wooded area, with no immediately obvious buildings.

There's very quiet voices coming from the right.

"-Sensors are picking up something."

That's probably where the plot is, sure, she'll go right.

"-Readings suggest a child. They were not there before. Of course I am sure."

The woman jerks around, not exactly startled. She looks the girl up and down and then makes a metallic clicking noise - is she even breathing?

"Hello," she says carefully. "And who might you be?"

"Thank you, Ms Hargreeves, I am Epimetheus. Do you know how you came to be here?"

"I assume I fell asleep."

"...Why would falling asleep bring you here?"

"Sleep is usually required for dreaming."

Epimetheus pauses for a moment. "Quite so," she agrees.

There's a burst of gunfire - it's distant, but still has Epimetheus turning her head.

"We should not linger here," she states. "We need to return the extraction point."

"Of course." She'll follow where Epimetheus leads.

She leads for a little while, at a speed Vanya can keep up with, then pauses. "May I carry you? We will make better progress."

Epimetheus moves carefully, quickly, but telegraphing her movements to pick Vanya up. There is nothing particular soft about her, and in fact, her edges are hard in a way not even the most muscled human would manage. "Set?" she asks once she has Vanya picked up.

Epimetheus can move faster now, and does not, in fact, seem to be in any way hampered by Vanya's weight.

It doesn't take her that long to get them to what is clearly the extraction site - a break in the trees, where a helicopter could be landed.

She emits a noise that sounds like a perfect recording of a blackcap bird.

There's a slightly less expert response, from not that far away, and Epimetheus makes her way over to where a small group of people are waiting.

"Glad you could join us," one of them says to Epimetheus, before turning his attention to Vanya. "And who's this young lady?"

"Vanya Hargreeves. And you are?"

"Colonel Kurt Vickers," he introduces himself. "Epime, why is Ms Vanya with us?"

"I told you that my sensors had picked her up. I was not about to leave a child alone in the forest."

"I didn't mean to be here," she says in an apologetic tone.

"Ah, no, it's okay," Vickers assures, with the trapped look of someone who has no idea how to handle children, he looks rapidly to Epimetheus.

Who shakes her head slightly. "He was reprimanding me, not you," she explains to Vanya. "Our transport is here."

And sure enough, a helicopter can be heard as it comes into view and lands in the clearing.

"I assume you didn't mean for me to be here, either," she points out.
