"I will be able to provide you with a crossbow as well, but there are limits to what I can countenance bringing onto school grounds.  Magic is real and usable by humans, but - this is very rarely advisable.  Any but the most cautious and conservative use tends to have physical and psychological repercussions."

"Like what? - And I know not to carry knives around at school, you guys don't have scanners but I'm not dumb."

"The use and study of magic is a complex field, but in short - even the most benign varieties have a tendency to cause addiction and chronic illness if used frequently."

School!  Giles puts VAMPYR away and sets to work catching Nausicaa up.

She's not a very attentive or clever student but she does try.

Kaylee's outside the library just as Nausicaa's finishing up.  "Hey!  How'd it go?"

"Good! I got caught up a good bit." Right here's probably not the best place to tell Kaylee about vampires. Maybe at one of their houses?

"Cool!  You ready to head home?"

"Yeah! Okay if I stay at your place a bit? Not expected back at my place until dinner."

"Sure!  My folks really meant the doors-always-open thing.  And I'd love to have you!"
