"… Sure."

He blinks, and his eyes change to a bright yellow color.

He looks at Tyler in some bewilderment.

"Okay, you're definitely something. Try moving around a little?"

Tyler shifts to the side.

"Yeah, there's a weird glowy afterimage. Like an outline of you, except more, uh. Pointy-eared."

"… I think it shows up on camera, too."

"Probably a panther or a kitsune, then. Okay, I'll ask Derek how to handle that. He's better with were-animals."

"Do you know anything about either of them? I mean, you dropped the name… yesterday…"

"Werepanthers are like, you know, humans who turn into panthers. Except by 'panther' I mean they go all monster face and grow claws. I think werecoyotes are the only ones who actually turn into an animal. Kitsune are kind of foxes, but they're not shapeshifters. They have some kind of magical elemental thing going on."

"Do you know any more about the magical elemental thing…?"

"No, that's kind of why I suggested you talk to Derek. I was human and completely oblivious last spring, I haven't really looked into medieval bestiaries yet."

"Medieval bestiaries being the only books that actually explain these creatures?"

"Yeah. Hunters are the only ones who write stuff down; druids have an oral tradition. And supernatural creatures don't all know about everything that's out there, anyway. Derek only knows what his mom told him, he's never met most of these things."

"… Druids being tree people who know about the supernatural and hunters being self-explanatory…?"

"Yeah, it's all pretty easy to pick up. Which is good, I hate reading."

"So long as it's not cryptic or awkward, I'm usually fine reading."

"Well, I'll find you a medieval bestiary. Just give me an hour or two to kill a hunter."

"… I'm not sure I endorse the killing of the hunters here but I don't know approximately anything about them."

"I was joking. Hunters have guns to shoot me with, I'm not killing one to get you a book. This was kind of a waste of time, so I'm going to go. Hopefully you don't die."

"– Yeah, hopefully I don't die, but – how is this a waste of time?"

"If you don't want our help, I can just put you in touch with Dr. Deaton and he can lecture you on magic stuff."

"I wasn't clear what help you were offering. It sounded like you just wanted to meet the new magical creature on the block."

"I'm not really- I'm here because Derek is worse at talking to people, but I'm not good. Basically we think you need someone to explain stuff to you."

"I probably do," he agrees. "Is Dr. Deaton bad for that, somehow, or –?"

"He might not want to explain anything to you, he likes the whole mysterious mentor vibe. And he doesn't like us, so you'd have to pretend you found him on your own, which would look suspicious. You can wait for Scott to talk to you, I guess." 

"– McCall?"
