Maika grins at him and bounces off to go meet people.
The first person he comes across says something with her mouth first but switches to her hands without a problem when he asks her to repeat herself.
”I asked where you came from.”
”I came from over there? Vance said I could meet people.”
”Yeah! I’ve only met him and June so far but I want to meet everyone!”
”Ah, you’re June’s rescue. I’m Monica, do you have a name?”
”Cute. You seem sweet, no wonder June took a shine to you.”
”You should go that way if you want to meet people, a lot of people hang out over there when they’re not working.”
”Okay! Thank you!”
That way turns out to lead to a park, which is big and green and the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. He spins to take it all in, bounces his hands in overwhelmed delight.
Someone puts a hand on his shoulder from behind. He wriggles away and turns around to see who.
”You should watch where you’re going.”
”Are you new here?”
”I’m new! I’m Maika, I’m here to meet people!”
”Nice to meet you, I’m Connor. Did you sign on when we stopped at Khoine?”
”I don’t know what that means. June and Vance fixed me and got me a body.”
”I see. Well, you should watch out anyway, I think peribiological bodies get dizzy too.”
”I don’t have that word?”
Connor spells it out for him. “It’s the kind of body you have.”
”I didn’t know there was a word for it!”
“There’s words for most things. I have to go to work now, I’ll see you around.”
”Okay! I’ll see you!”
The park is good. It’s open and full of colors and he’s going to flop onto the grass and stay here forever.
