"Kimbelcayra. Cayra for short. Okay, so you're from a huge, portal-impoverished alucine with no networked flowers that's been cut off for... for forever. Wow. Okay, but you have 'mancers anyway? At least one kind? Is that how you speak Radial, or seem to?"

"Maybe? What does an alucine look like from inside?"

"It depends on the alucine. Some of them basically don't have anything in them but air, some of them have sky islands, some of them are just ground on the bottom and air, some of them have a lot of water. They're all different sizes."

"Can you see the edges? If you can't maybe my planet's in an alucine, but there's definitely no kind of box around us. Are mancers your version of weavers? They have magic?"

"Yeah, 'mancers have magic... I really don't know how to describe what the edge of an alucine looks like. It's where the stuff stops."

Flynn shakes her head, "I don't think we're in an alucine. We have millions of stars in our sky, and I've been told they are really far away. It might have something to do with 'mancers, or weavers or magic though. How'd you get here?"

"Through the door. It never occurred to me before to put a door over a portal but it's a good idea, and this obviously isn't the same alucine I was in before, based on the windows." She gestures at the windows. "I have no idea how those were made, probably several different 'mancies. Pretty, though."

"The door that normally goes to the road opened here. We have stories about portals, but I'd never actually seen one before today. Are you a 'mancer?"

"Yeah, I'm a decent antheomancer and I'm working on automancy."

"It's a good thing to be a 'mancer where you're from?"

"I mean, you have to pick your specialty and how far you want to go with it carefully, because of the vices. I think I'm going to be okay, though."

"You don't really get to choose where I'm from. You're either a weaver or not. Will you get the vices if you use too much magic?"

"If you learn too much magic. Once you've got it, might as well use it." Cayra runs her hand through her hair; it turns blue, then back to black.

Flynn laughs, "Wow, I'm impressed. It must be nice."
She stands up, "Do you want to look around a bit?"

"Sure, why not. Does this window look like something you could make with weaving? I don't know how I'd even begin to put together enough 'mancy to put it together."

"I don't know much about weaving, the people who catch it don't tend to stay long. What I have seen isn't nearly this neat or orderly. Let's check outside." Flynn heads to open the door.

"Catch it?" asks Cayra, following.

"I don't think being a weaver is actually a disease, but people act like it is. People don't have to be around a weaver to become one but," Flynn shrugs, "I guess it's better to be safe."
They step outside.
The outside has some lawn, a lake to the right, a forest to the left, some mountains in the distance if they continue forward. It's cloudy.

"Is the vice for weaving really bad?"

Flynn nods, "It happens slowly, but once you become a weaver there's no preventing it. You lose all your empathy for other people, even people you once loved. You can't make logical decisions or tradeoffs and have no self control. The more magic you use, the faster it happens. You can try to not use any magic at all, but," Flynn's eyes focus into the distance, "It's just too beautiful."

"Oh wow. That's worse than most 'mancy vices, maybe all of them... classically tephramancy's worst, it has a feedback loop sort of like that, but... wow."

Flynn suddenly smiles, bittersweet but genuine, "But if it had to be someone, I'm glad it was me. Most weavers just give up, you know? Go off into the forest and make pretty things until they lose themselves. I'm not going to give up. If there's a way to stop it, I'll figure it out. If there's not, I'll at least do something useful before I go."

"I wonder if you could counter this with a vice. Usually you can't do this with vices - you can't even counter antheomancy's vice, which has an opposite, if you try you're just kind of in trouble - but yours isn't quite a 'mancy. It might just make it worse, though."

"How does your magic work?"

"Antheomancy is networked flower magic. You basically can't avoid it if you want to learn anything you can't pick up by talking to people, but you don't need much of it; but I like taking notes and reading public petals, so I wound up with a decent amount of it just as a side effect. The vice is extroversion, which isn't all that bad, especially since I started out pretty introverted. Now I need to talk to people every day or I will not be happy, but I can do it on a speakflower and learn things while I do it, so it's not a big deal. Automancy is my other one and it's magic of the self. In advanced forms I'll be able to shapeshift and heal myself, I'm already making good progress on fixing my clumsiness problem, and while it would probably never have come up I should already be thoroughly immune to outside magic that would affect me if I don't want it to. The vice is self-absorption, which unfortunately is probably going to make me very annoying because I started out pretty self-absorbed in the first place, and won't exactly dovetail well with the antheomancy - but I think I can make it work, and the speakflower network is a big place if nothing else."
