She is sitting in the library, studying. It's her most common pastime, by hours; spending time with her sister is more enjoyable but Jaromira prefers to socialize more broadly and Katarzyna would only get in the way. This is better on net; the two of them share a room, so it isn't as though her sister's time is entirely hogged by the other girls who call this boarding school "home." Or at least "prison." Katarzyna doesn't mind it, though; the school library is excellent, and basic manners and care for the books has endeared her to the librarian to a sufficient degree to lubricate the interlibrary loans process when there's something she wants to read that they don't have.
"I didn't think so but it still merited saying. Of course I am also available for assistance with non-escapade endeavors."
Katarzyna is extremely math and has experience explaining things to people who are not from helping her sister study!
Xander's experience with math appears to amount to "why can't I hold all these limes".
Well, with math, when you're having a hard time carrying all of the limes, you can put some down by writing things out extremely stepwise. It feels inefficient, sometimes, but it works.
"Why don't they say it makes it easier instead of talking about how it makes it easier to grade?"
"I don't know the specifics. I can generate hypotheses of varying levels of charitableness if you like."
"I'm not that curious, really, I just start asking why when things are annoying."
"Eh, I'd forget 'em." He tries to go through a problem very stepwise and screws it up anyway because of neglecting order of operations.
Katarzyna re-explains order of operations. "Are you someone who finds acronymic mnemonics useful?"
"Nope. I know my very excellent mother did something with pies but I'll be damned if I know what. Does the order of operations one even stand for anything?"
"If you mean does it expand into a phrase instead of just an acronym, I imagine someone somewhere has done so but I'm not aware of it."
