At the end of all things, there is a waiting room.
It's fairly typical, as these things go. Thin, scratchy carpet. Fish tank with still fish. Old gossip magazines. Incredibly uncomfortable chairs. The low buzz of a television or radio or something somewhere else, words indistinguishable. No windows, no clock, no door, and the receptionist's desk was shuttered.
This one's a bit special, though.
"Let's switch then go talk to her!" Naruto says, desperate for a subject change.
"Good idea."
She stands, quickly goes through the hand seals and --
He transforms, too. (Naruto likes turning into girls. It feels nice being one sometimes. A lot of the other kids say it's weird, that they still feel like boys or girls when they're the other, but Naruto just feels like his present body.)
"This is weird," she says. "I don't think my face goes like that."
"It feels weird being taller. But that's always gonna be a problem with me," he reaches forward and pats Naruto's very very smol head.
"You're the teensy one." Naruto, who is short for her age, strongly appreciates not being the shrimp on the team.
"It's my curse, I know. I am forever burdened. Have fun with that." He looks over to Sasuke. "How do we look?"
"I can't tell the difference," he says after a few moments scrutinizing them.
"Good. You, at least, have a bit more familiarly with the both of us. Hopefully that means it'll pass with Kakashi."
"You can go home, if you'd prefer, start preparing for your trapping adventure. You can storm off and Naruto and I can bitch about you being an arse on the way home."
He considers this, then nods.
(He'll probably be more sulking off, but he can work up enough of a snit if he thinks too much about Inazuma startling him, he thinks.)
He leaves him be and turns to Naruto.
"You ready, Raizume? It's the role of a lifetime."
He waits a few moments for Sasuke to leave and then sighs.
"Well, that was nearly a disaster."
"Yeah. Sasuke's... Twitchy sometimes. People don't sit next to him often for a reason."
"You can't really blame him. At all." He shakes his head. "Inazuma can be more mindful in the future, right?"
