"It does depend on the stuff. If a few people read, like, a few tens of thousands of words you've written and they care about what you have to say but it's not life-changing you can get a closet out of that. Approximately. There are units for measuring power but that's a little like asking how many apples you need to eat to run a mile."

"Okay, so the cost of a child credit would be, like, having a decent blog. That's not so bad."

"A blog is a kind of website where you write, like, open letters and public journal entries, people have them on all kinds of topics."

"It's sort of like a book but you can read it without being in the same room as it with something like this." She pulls her pocket everything out of her pocket.

Using her pocket everything as a demonstration also gives her magic.

"How? Does it work for books in different demiplanes or just - I guess you wouldn't have checked, huh."

"Hang on a sec, let me check something."

Can she use magic... to make her battery life go up.

Well, not by wishing it would go up without any further instruction in or practice with magic.

"My pocket everything needs battery life? Like, uh, fuel. If I can't do that by magic it will stop working soon but if I can do that by magic I can make it play music and show pictures and stuff."

"I don’t know. I’m thinking I might need to know more about how it works and what kind of fuel it uses."

"Do you have... weather. Or.... static."

"In a big enough place with the right environmental conditions you can have rain. There aren't a lot of places like that but I've been to one. Static exists."

"It's like lightning or static. I don't know a lot else about how it works though."

"In theory, I think that can be done, but I don’t know how yet and it doesn’t seem like you’re going to be able to tell me enough to be a lot of help. I really want to bring more reds here or to somewhere else we can definitely safely visit, so I can ask them questions about your planet and your pocket everything."

"Other reds aren't going to know much about how everythings work either because that's not a red job. I guess some'll know more than I do."

"Do they have enough everythings that people could take some apart to study them or does everyone really need theirs intact? Or could we find books - could we use the pocket everythings to find books about pocket everythings? I'm trying to figure out how to make this work so you can have whatever you need to be comfortable without ever having to go back there, and also I want to get access to that planet myself. I want to go tell everyone stuff and have millions of people read something I wrote on their pocket everythings because then I would be very powerful."

"There's a lot of everythings, there are probably some spare. The pocket everythings are how you access the writing but they're not where most of it is stored, though, that's on... servers or something... that reds don't control. Do people have to believe you for it to work?"

"They don't strictly have to believe you - it's actually possible to write books about things that didn't happen but would be funny or sad if they did, and tell people that this made up story is emotionally resonant for you and you composed it over a certain period of time - it's polite to read the preface of a fiction book, it's honestly pretty rude to skip it - and the story won't tend to be as profitable to share as a nonfiction book of the same length but it's not nothing. But it'd be a lot better if they did."

"Huh, people write fiction on Amenta but they don't do the preface thing. I guess you could stick to things like 'this is a picture of me' and what your name is and stuff, if you went and got a blog, nobody would have a reason to think that was a lie. - if you say you're an alien and anybody in the government believes you they'll want to find you and figure out how to get here."

"Probably bad if you want to take reds here and not deal with cleans!"
