Edie was perusing the latest correspondence from her fork. She still should have been paying enough attention to realize that the door didn't go where it ought before it swung shut and she couldn't sense anyone else anymore, but she wasn't.
After opening and closing the door a couple times to make sure she hadn't just been abducted somehow, she looks around.

A while later he asks Cam for a ring. He has a ring design, sapphires in a gold setting, tengwar detailing so fine that only a demon could do it around where the stones are set.
"Congratulations," Cam says, handing him the ring in a little velvet-lined box.
"Thanks!" And the next time he sees Edie, he can sneak it on to her hand even if he can't make it there directly.
She startles slightly at the sudden touch of the cool metal on her skin, and then she lifts her hand to look at the ring, and then she beams and kisses him some more.

Snuggles for ring-exchanging seem justified first, and then snuggles go elsewhere, but eventually they get over to the Bar and he asks "hey, do you have published works describing someone getting eaten by a snakelike thing with a mirror for a face?"
There's stories about people being eaten by snakey demons and presumably having their souls devoured because that is what demons do! And stories about snake monsters suddenly appearing and people disappearing into them until somebody manages to kill the snake monster!
Okay. That latter is the thing of interest. Any ones written by someone claiming to have been snake monstered?
