So he picks her up, and tries to carry her as gently as possible outside.

"So that's your new friend?"

"They don't really speak English, but they learn fast. Good at picking up cues from tone of voice and stuff."

"Sure. Deaton says everything was fine, you just disappeared all night."

"Stiles, I'm fine, really. We're going home, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah. Love you too."

Scott puts her in the backseat, unless she protests.

"Kobold okay?"

Nod. "Okay."

And so they drive.

The boys chatter amicably and accusingly by turns, but nothing too serious.

The kobold - who has never ridden on an animal before, never mind in a motor vehicle - quickly concludes that lying across the back seat is the best way to deal with this situation.

They arrive. Scott opens her door.

"Does kobold want pick up or can ilya?" 

He points at the ground next to car, assuming the seat is too high for her to get off.

"Ilya."

She takes another second to get her bearings, then stands and teleports out.

"Okay. I go inside my home. You want go inside my home?" 

She looks up at it, then back to Scott, and pauses a moment before shrugging. "Okay."

"Can go if want, can not go if want. Kobold okay?" 

Stiles waits by the jeep.

Shrug, nod. "Okay."

So they walk to the door.

Before they get there, it opens.

"Scott! I was so worried, your boss called and explained but how could you just leave like that?"

She hugs him tightly.

The kobold startles and freezes when the door opens, then takes a couple cautious steps away from Scott while his mother hugs him.

She unhugs.

"Hi. Is this the kobold?"

"Yeah. Uh." 

He faces the kobold clearly, crouching so it's clear he's talking to her and not the others. 

"If I was there place then, and am here place now, this place is new, that place is old. To understand new is to learn. To understand old is to know or remember. Understand?"

Nod.

"You are kobold, you are kobold person. I am Scott, I am human person."

He points at the grass.

"Grass is grass, grass is no person. When see new person, we say we meet person. You can meet my person. I want her happy, she want me happy. I want you happy, she want you happy. Understand?"

Lovely. She refrains from making a face. "Okay."

"We go inside now. When I want person to be happy, I say I like that person. When I more want person to be happy, I say I love that person. I love this person. I like kobold. I love Stiles, I like Dr. Deaton. I love mom. Understand?"
