Amy Pond wakes up to the sound of a car horn. She groans, shoves the blankets off of her, and sits up. It's a Saturday morning, the first day of spring break, and she wants nothing more than to sleep all day. Unfortunately, her friends have other plans.
"He kept going on about how the cabin is cursed or something. Wouldn't even tell us how much gas cost." Natsuki adds. "I was about ready to strangle him, except he had a gun the whole time. He's fucking insane."
"I don't like him knowing where our cabin is. What if he's a serial killer or something?"
"Then Moira will karate chop his head off. Did he really think it was cursed?"
"Yeah. Something about people not coming back, or something. Which adds to the serial killer theory."
"Like he would know if people came back. They probably just didn't stop by because he's such a fucking creep."
"Damn, Natsuki." Eric says, amazed. "And here I thought you were the innocent one."
"She said like one curse word. Trust me, she's more innocent than anyone else in this car." To Natsuki, she adds, "And that's a good thing. Trust me."
"So how far away are we from the cabin?"
"Half an hour, last time I checked. Mickey, could you-"
"No service." Mickey interrupts him, already holding up Eric's phone. "Amy, try your phone."
"I've only got one bar-" she says, just as that one bar blinks away. "Okay, now I have zero bars. Does anybody else have signal?"
"I won't if you don't. We're on the same plan." Moira says. She glances at Natsuki. "How about you?"
"I didn't even bring my phone. They're supposed to be fixing the screen this weekend." She shakes her head. "Eric?"
He pulls it out of the cupholder and hands it to Natsuki. "Anything?"
"Yeah, you've got three bars." She smiles. "I was kind of worried there for a second."
"See if you can pull up Maps. The address should already be in there."
"Okay, where is your Maps- never mind, found it." She opens the app and tries to load the route.
"Do we have to turn soon?"
"Yeah, it says-"
The three bars of signal suddenly flicker and then cut out. Maps quits unexpectedly.
"Your signal just went poof." She makes the appropriate hand motions for emphasis. "Uh, I think we're supposed to turn in like half a mile."
"What the hell?" Amy asks, taking the phone from Natsuki. "How can you run out of signal that fast? I think your phone might be broken."
"Yeah, just like the gas gauge. We're trapped with no phones and a malfunctioning car in the middle of the wilderness." Mickey grins. "You know what I think?"
"What do you think, Mickey?" Moira humors him.
"I think we're cursed."
