Amy Pond wakes up to the sound of a car horn. She groans, shoves the blankets off of her, and sits up. It's a Saturday morning, the first day of spring break, and she wants nothing more than to sleep all day. Unfortunately, her friends have other plans.
Natsuki inches closer to Amy, uncomfortable.
"Only one cabin on that lake. People say it's cursed." He tells them, as if expecting them to be frightened.
"I'm sure it's not cursed," Natsuki says, nervous because of the man but not his story.
"Folks go to stay there sometimes. They don't always come back." He warns them.
"There's no such thing as curses. And they could have just taken a different road on the way back." Amy points out rationally, trying not to obviously look to the door. "Can we get that gas now?"
"I been here since the war. Ain't nobody come back from that cabin." He says.
"Which war?" Amy asks, trying to be polite as she slowly inches back towards the door. She puts her hand on Natsuki's wrist to guide her back as well.
"You know damn well which war!" He shouts.
Actually, she doesn't. It could be WWI, or WWII, or the Vietnam War, or... The world has had no shortage of wars. He's certainly old enough to have been alive during any of them. Either way, she takes a much larger step back and is pretty much in the doorway now.
Natsuki had also been moving away from the man, but when he says that, she stops. "Don't talk to her like that."
"What, that whore?"
"Excuse me?" Amy asks, staring at him in shock and disbelief. Did he seriously just call her that?
"You heard me."
"Hey. Don't talk about my sister like that." Moira says from behind them, glaring at the man.
"Let's get out of here. He's not worth it." Mickey tells them, also glaring.
Amy pulls Natsuki out of the door and slams it behind them.
"That bastard!" She says, almost unable to comprehend how anyone could be that rude.
"Let's go. Before I change my mind and go kill him with my bare hands." Moira says, opening the car door and getting inside.
"What happened?" Eric asks from the driver's seat.
"That asshole called my sister a whore!" Moira explains, waiting for Amy and Natsuki to get in.
Mickey is in the passenger's seat again. "We heard shouting and went to see what was up. I don't know what his problem is but that guy is a dick."
This time, Natsuki takes the middle seat.
"Thanks. Do we have enough gas?" Amy asks.
"It's almost full, like I thought it should be. There's something wrong with the gauge." Eric explains as he pulls out of the parking lot.
"Good, cause I wasn't paying that asshole for anything." Amy declares. "Old people are the worst."
