Shrug. "They keep their followers safe. Mostly from other gods. Just - it’s not worth it. No offense, I don’t know anything about your god or why putting up with her is worth it to you."

"Your gods sound like - possibly not even the same thing at all?"

"Why do you think so?"

"Well, uh, the kind on Golarion... do not leach positive energy from people..."

"How do you know?"

"It seems like, here, this is a thing that happens, and therefore you know about it. So I think something is different, because on Golarion, even if it is a thing, people do not know about it."

"I don't think everyone everywhere knows. A priest probably would, though. So how do you pay your god?"

"I do things that I think She would approve of, like fighting beings of ontological evil from a plane of ontological evil, and not things I think She would disapprove of, like, uh, breaking laws or doing murder, and use the spells She gives me to widen the space of possible things I could do that She would approve of."

"How sure are you that Golarion's gods didn't make the beings of ontological evil to have a threat to defend you from in exchange for your obedience?"

"I don't have a way to prove anything to you if you prefer to assume that all common knowledge on my planet may be an elaborate deception."

"Fair enough. Will you tell me about Erastil's people?"

"I don't know very much about Erastil but he's popular among farmers the world over because he's the god of farming. Also hunting. He's married, insofar as that is a meaningful thing for a god to be, and is sometimes also considered a god of marriage. I think His wife is also a god of farming but She might have a different spin on it in some way that's more obvious to people who have spoken to either of their clerics or read their holy texts. The farmers are... just... farmers, I've never spent any period of time in any place with an institution of Erastil-worship because for most of my life my home country legally required putting a specific other god first and that crippled cleric-selection among other Lawful gods and also any gods who prefer that their priests not be detected and executed, which is most of them. And when I haven't been in my home country I've been at the Worldwound, that being the name of the portal to the plane of ontological Evil - the Abyss; it's the Chaotic Evil one - and it's not really arable there. We had to have all our supplies teleported in."

"Okay. Ain's people are... way too peaceful. They’re not really allowed to have arguments or be... closed-off or suspicious... I just don’t want to waste a trip if you’re imagining something else."

"I am almost certainly imagining something else because I do not have nearly enough common assumptions with the people of this world to be imagining the same thing. If you recommend a different place I will accept your recommendation."

Valna turns and starts walking in a different direction. "I really do. Ain's one of the worst."

"All right."

Walk walk. It’ll be hours before they get out of Nurezi territory.

Carrying his armor isn't really any better than wearing it so he just leaves it on. "Is it acceptable to cast a spell?"

"What spell?"

"Endure Elements."

"What does that do?"

"Endure Elements makes natural temperatures of a wide range comfortable. It's not actually a very hot day but I'm wearing armor and the padding for the armor is hot, and putting the armor in my bag would make the weight distribution worse, but I can do that instead if I shouldn't cast divine magic here."

"That seems fine," Valna says with intense wistfulness.

"...I only prepared one since I was traveling alone and it lasts all day but if you would like it -?"

"I'm fine with the temperature."
