Edie is not happy.
"Yes, I know he leaves when I tell him to, but he leaves in a sexually harassing way!"
He nods, satisfied.
"Mama's a genetics professor and education activist. Dad's an engineer."
"Public school sucks. She attempts to make it suck less."
"My mama is a noble person."
"She sounds like it."
"Maybe you'll meet her at some point," she says, and ruffles his hair.
"We'll see." Pet pet.
After a second, he carefully ducks his head away.
"–what are you here for? Magic-wise? Other than the telepathy."
"Precog, probably. I haven't gotten any of it yet but it's an incredibly saleable skill and requires less specific commitment to market than running VR does."
"Leaves a lot of time for everything else."
"Well, I'm much more enthusiastic about the telepathy."
“Sounds more fun to me.”
"It's plenty fun."
"If you ever need somebody to practice on..."
"I'll keep that in mind. It's twin-only at the moment, but I have been looking to expand."
"'People who are my twin' is kind of a small category."
"If it were a larger category I couldn't have gotten it so fast!"
“How fast did you get it?”
"I had the basic version down when we got out of virtuality. I've added a few bells and whistles since."
“What’s fancy telepathy like, even?”
"It's--more communicative than talking. You can just transmit concepts without having to compress them into words and hoping the other person has experiences similar enough that what they hear is close to what you say. It's like--like not being locked up in your own head anymore."
“...that sounds really nice.”
