Blai in Har
Permalink

There is a human in an unfurnished room with walls decorated in sky blue with white clouds, just closing her bedroom door behind her. She has a book in one hand. Her hair might look purplish at a glance but actually each individual strand is pastel pink, blue, or platinum blonde.

This room is technically for entertaining company in but normally the company is invited and normally someone breaking in should trip the silent alarm because normally someone breaking in should use the door.

This someone is, instead, falling on the floor, scrambling to his feet with an urgency like he's under attack - an impression reinforced by the fact that he's holding a mace in one hand and has the other poised like it's going to do something too - and then tensing up and ensmallening in confusion.

She demands to know what he's doing here. Not in Taldane, though.

"Please pardon me, I don't know that language and do not have Comprehend Languages prepared today," he says, holding up his free hand flat but not quite, yet, putting the mace away.

Talking is at least sort of a good sign! She doesn't speak whatever that language is but she does speak Hari. Everyone speaks Hari, right? "What do you want from me?"

"I don't speak that language either. I know Chelish." In Infernal: "I can speak Infernal." In a language similar to the first: "I can speak Common Taldane." He is holding very still, and mostly maintaining eye contact, with occasional saccades to look at things in the room that move or to glance in the direction of sounds if they occur.

She, too, maintains eye contact while she tries one last language, something spoken in hisses and unvoiced trills and headtilts and some phoneme that she decides to render as standing briefly on tiptoe, and when that doesn't work she goes around him to open a door that isn't the one she just came through. This one lets out into a hallway. She watches her surprise guest the entire time.

He tilts his head attentively to see if she is best understood as beckoning him into the hallway.

She steps out into the hallway herself and immediately relaxes. She holds the door for him, gesturing him out of her apartment.

Out he goes with a slight bow in case that translates.

The door silently alerts her to his magic gear as he exits. She switches back to speaking Ilan since it clearly doesn't matter, he's about as likely to understand no matter what language she speaks. She's mostly speaking for an audience of anyone who happens to scry this hallway later. She looks at the ceiling, and then down, and doesn't make eye contact. "I'm not going to go after you for trespassing because it seemed like an accident but I think I might go complain that it was possible for you to get in without tripping my alarm."

At this point in the conversation it doesn't seem useful to try to respond verbally. He looks around in the hall a bit, decides it's not going to attack him, and puts his mace back in its pocket where it hangs from his belt. Is eye contact rude here or something. He looks over her shoulder instead.

She shuts the door and starts walking down the hall. She doesn't try to indicate a preference about whether he follows her. If not stopped she's going to leave the building.

Is the exit visible from here? An exit seems like a great place to be, at least relative to this hallway or her room, both of which are terrible places to be. If there are stairs or something intervening it will not be obvious that following her doesn't constitute, well, following her, which isn't what he's about at all.

There's a door to the lobby with a one-way window and a door from the lobby to the outside with a one-way window though they line up in such a way that it's hard to see very much of the outside through them. Seems to be a sunny day with buildings and humanoids.

Okay. Sunny is good. He goes out to the lobby and from there to the outdoors.

She has a place in mind to go to now and will proceed there.

There's a city here. This street is very clean and tidy. An elfy sort of humanoid floats past Saira in the opposite direction. A small, furry quadruped steps out of another building.

Maybe he's in the First World somehow. Is she actively beckoning or does she just have business outside that has nothing to do with him, as would be expected for a person who was not planning on receiving a visitor?

She glances back at him and doesn’t seem to specifically not want him to follow but doesn’t beckon.

Iomedae, if you can swap out my Sure Casting for a Comprehend Languages that would be of enormous use at this moment. It doesn't work at all. He takes a tentative step in her direction but if she's not going to produce any clearer signals he will not pursue her further.

Nope, she’s going to go complain about this situation in front of the office of the people who sold her the alarm system he somehow bypassed.

Okay. That seems like an errand which has nothing to do with him or at least does not obviously require his involvement.

He will just stand there for a minute and look at things and try to figure out what his present affordances are.

This street has shops selling pottery and clothing and a restaurant and some apartments.

It’s hot and muggy. Many of the locals seem to somehow repel most of the many insects, and it was not hot and muggy inside.

Well, he does have an Endure Elements. He'll cast that. It won't help with the bugs but it'll prevent him from sweating to death in his armor.

Two humanoids, one apparently a child, walk down the street and the child stops and attempts to ask Blai a question, waving a metal disc with some kind of colorful illusion on it at Blai.

"I don't have Comprehend Languages today. I speak Chelish, Infernal, and Common Taldane."
