It was not Lastwall who freed us from the chains of Asmodeus, but the Galtan archmage Cotonnet. It was not Iomedae who fought by our side, but Milani. It was not obedience that unbound our souls, but liberty.
When we were free from bondage, it was then that Iomedae's servants came, asking our compliance and respect and commanding us to obey their orders. But why should we? Because they provide us with clean water and healing? So do the priests of Pharasma, and in far greater number. Because they provide us with order and stability? So did Asmodeus. They cared little for the suffering of our people until the very moment that it ended, when they could swoop in like vultures to be treated as our saviors.
There are those who have yet to comprehend the meaning of our freedom, who protest that surely the country of "Blessed Iomedae" must have had a good reason to stay her hand against Cheliax. But even the words of Her own priests prove this false! They protest that the crown of Lastwall swore a sacred oath to side with no one in our civil war, and that having done so they could not bring arms against House Thrune. Yet having sworn such an oath, it was only their own Lawfulness that forbade them to break it. To bind men into Evil and bid them follow it lest they lose their Law is the tool of Asmodeus; so thoroughly have the people of Lastwall shackled themselves to Lawfulness that they have forgotten how to be Good.
Do not mistake me for a Galtan anarchist, who calls for heads to swing from lampposts and blood to be spilt with little care for whose blood it is. I do not ask you to treat all law as anathema, merely to by your conduct seek that which is Good rather than merely that which is Lawful. In your own soul, I urge you to cultivate the anarchic virtues of liberty, courage, disobedience of unjust authority, hope, friendship, and imagination, and to cast out the so-called "virtues" of obedience, humility, and commitment.
Together we shall rebuild our nation into a shining example of liberty. We shall create a land where all men are free to serve their consciences, and where none must live in fear. We shall cast aside our shackles and set our and our children's souls free to seek Goodness. And we shall do it together — not merely as allies, but as friends.
