They're in the woods tonight. Sometimes it's not safe to stay in a town – usually when one of the guys did something stupid enough that the police are after them – and they end up out here.

It's usually the same – they come out in cars with coolers of food and drinks, Tycho lights a campfire with his mind (she used to be so impressed with that, and now part of her just resents that he can do it at all), and everyone makes a night of it. She gets passed around a little more than usual. It used to be fun.

They're reluctant to let her away from the camp for anything, even given certain human biological needs, so she threatens to piss on the one who has her in his lap in a way that's mostly a joke until he grins and pushes her away from the circle of young men.

She wanders out into the woods a little further than she has to.

From behind her there is a sort of screaming noise, but not a noise like a person or even an animal screaming, but a noise like the sound an object sometimes makes when it's going through the air very fast, only much louder and getting moreso every second.

Then there is a bright light and an earth-shattering kaboom. The ground shakes violently. She may have trouble keeping her footing.

–yep, earth-shattering kaboom sends her tumbling to the ground.

She tries to scramble to her feet right away but she's nearly blinded by the light and her ears are ringing loudly enough to drown out everything else. After a minute, she recovers enough to at least turn around and try to make out what happened through the afterimage of the flash.

Her whole body hurts, and her palms are definitely scraped from the landing, but she's not sure what else might be injured.

Where the camp was is now a slightly-smoldering metal wreck.

...that's new.

She blinks and squints a little more. Nope. Still there.

What?

She decides that as long as this is apparently happening, she might as well try to get up and make her way towards...whatever is going on over there.

It looks sort of...spaceship-like. In an extremely damaged way.

Is there a door?

There are many holes. It's not obvious which if any was meant to be there.

Well, then, she'll just have to pick a hole at random.

(Did it actually land on all of them? Are they really all dead?)

If there were any survivors then none of them are in evidence.

The interior is weird. It was probably made for someone with more limbs than her, and not intended to be anywhere with gravity.

The design of the place is making her dizzy. There are handholds in odd places and doors where there shouldn't be doors, everything winding around itself and refusing to conform to her Earthling notions of "down".

She picks her way down the corridors nonetheless. If there are aliens in here, she wants to know about them.

Eventually she finds what is, if her science fiction has not failed her, the cockpit. There is an alien in it. A very dead alien covered in writhing gold wires.

Oh.

Yeah. That's definitely...not human.

She can't really make out the shape of it through all the wire, so she approaches slowly, aware that this is a classic horror movie blunder but too curious to care.

Once she gets close enough the wire detaches from the dead alien and leaps at her.

Oh fuck.

She tries to throw herself out of the way.

Nope! A handful of wires dart out from the mass and sink into her flesh with an odd stinging and burning sensation.

She swears loudly, almost a scream, and grabs at the wires to try to pull them out.

(Now is not the time to pay attention to the tingly pain feelings. This is serious.)

The wires wrap around her grasping hand, and the main mass reels itself in, and then her entire body is being engulfed and penetrated.

Her whole field of vision fills with gold wire.

Well, as long as she's about to die...

She feels searing little lines of pain cross through her whole body, cutting into her flesh like it's nothing, surrounding her and filling her. She screams some more, as loudly as she wants, because it doesn't matter now.

She can't decide, after just a few moments, whether she wants to push them out or welcome them in.

And then the gold wires are settled neatly beneath her skin, except for two gold circles of wire, one on the inside of each wrist, and she is fine.

What the fuck.

She makes an attempt to sit up.

It succeeds!

...okay.

She inspects the inside of her right wrist, reaching to run her finger along the circle of gold wire.

When she touches the wire it projects a beam of light into the air, at the end of which is a figure like the alien pilot speaking in an alien language.

Wow.

This is completely unhelpful.

"...hi?"

She peers at the figure. That's...yeah, that's definitely more arms than human-average.

The alien figure does not respond, whether because it doesn't speak English or because it's just a recording.
