Miaka is recruiting.

Miaka is practically always recruiting.

This is less because her organization is so active and thriving, and more because "hey, want to end slavery and overthrow the immortal emperor who tortures people to death when he likes them and throws them off the roof when he doesn't?" is a really hard sales pitch. (Even for her.)

She's optimistic about her new approach, though. She smiles her way in to see the auction records and makes out with a secretary while her sister sneaks a peek at the genealogical records and gets a look at the housing records by way of an absurd story and some very convincing tears. And then she has a list of all the slaves the Emperor's bought in the last ten years, and their families, and where those families are living now.

It's quite a list. She starts working her way through it.

The younger sister of the last name on the list attends a fairly prestigious musical academy (on a scholarship; if her family had been able to afford it without then presumably her sister wouldn't have gone up on the auction block).

She can be found shortly after the end of the school day, in the academy garden, practicing a piece she doesn't quite have down yet.

This is an excellently convenient place to just so happen to meet her!

Miaka perches on the edge of a stone bench and listens and swings her legs idly.

The piece isn't flawless yet.

It's still very good. And she clearly loves playing, lost to the world and anything but the music.

Mmmm.

(And flawless comes with practice. Miaka would know.)

Revolution is very important, but she's not going to interrupt the music for it.

Eventually she finishes and starts putting her stuff together to go home.

"That," Miaka sighs, "was beautiful."

"--Oh! Hi! I didn't see you there."

Blush. "Sorry! I didn't mean to intrude. I only meant to listen for a minute, but..."

"It's okay! The point of music is to be listened to."

"Well, in that case. Do you play here often?"

"Yeah, I go here and this is a really nice place to practice."

"So it is!"

"Not that I don't practice at home, too, but sometimes it's nice to be out of the house for a while."

"Big family?"

"Eh, not really, I only have two siblings, just, they're both older than me and can get kind of overprotective."

"Ah. Yes, I have an older sister, I know what you mean."

"Is she five years older than you?"

"Only two! But she's never let that stop her."

"My siblings are protective of each other, too, but being the baby of the family I definitely get the brunt of it."

Giggle. "How worrying can your music-playing be?"

"Granted they don't generally worry about that in particular."

"Aw, and I was just getting ready with hypotheticals for why they might!"

"I'm very responsible with my flute playing! But go on, now I'm curious."

"Snake-charming! Seducing strange men and leading them away to your bower! Plotting to run away from home and play cadences for the army! Designing an act where you play while riding a unicycle and juggling flaming torches!"

"How would that last one even work? You need both hands to juggle, and also to play the flute."
