They're under a ruined overpass when he spots it, next to a quietly burbling stream.
"Hey, 2B, look at that."
"A crossbow bolt shouldn't be a problem. Sustained Podfire would hurt. I don't know what magical energy is like."
"Sure. I'll do a minor one if you don't mind, save on the effort and destruction and charging up and all."
And she stops, concentrates briefly, reaches out a hand, and blasts a branch off a nearby tree.
"Magic blasts!"
"Yeah and charge up and all. Don't reload as fast as your friends there. But if I took the time, there'd be a lot more than one tree down at the end."
"I don't doubt it! No deprecating of your abilities meant, you are clearly more than formidable. I imagine managing the whole forest would only be a matter of time, and perhaps not much of it."
"Still cool. Can you do- different sorts of effects? Like fire or electricity or pure force?"
"I can set things on fire. Can throw it, but not as much. Haven't the slightest idea what electricity is. I can move things, but not with that kind of force or at the amount."
"Move things? Like this?" A glowing ring appears around the hilt of his sword, and it swings out to hang in the air in front of him.
She still has the bullets. She levitates them in a swarm, then collapses them back into her hand.
"Oh what is that?"
He launches into a highly-technical explanation involving words such as "grid-form force field" and "nanoswarm".
She doesn't understand most of it but that's fine, she'll work on catching up and all that if she can and otherwise, well, wow.
"Is it just the sword or things you can put a ring on or?"
