Unlike her brother, Ranko had the sense to be careful around creepy old magic mirrors caretaken by weird old men.
Unfortunately when did the chaos surrounding her brother only ever affect him. Which is how she ends up staring at her own face in the stupid mirror and then somewhere else entirely.
"I can control plants! And do lots of other stuff eventually. Other ninjas can't, just me."
"He's at risk for being kidnapped, especially if the information gets to Konoha's enemies," Yamato says quietly.
He seems more interested in running around than in sitting still to watch a play (he understands less of the humor than Ranko, and keeps poking her to ask for explanation, but does occasionally stifle a giggle).
Ranko can't explain all of it, not being familiar with local geopolitics. Running around's good too, does he want to play tag?
He's initially unfamiliar with the game but takes to it quite enthusiastically when it's explained.
He's fairly fast for a kid, and clearly has a lot of energy, being willing to keep playing for several hours.
Good! She's still a lot faster than him, but she'll play as if she were only a little faster than him, enough to give him a real workout but not enough to make the game futile and therefore unfun.
What a cute kid. She is not her father and therefore will not attempt to push him to the point of total exhaustion.
"I think it's nearly food time," he says after a bit (he's more hungry than tired, really).
Amused: "Yes, I am." He's been standing off to the side mostly, alternatively keeping an eye on them and on anyone passing.
