The next day, as with every day, students must attend homeroom.
"No one has dibs. I'm just surprised. He's never been a very social guy."
"Hm. I know the feeling. I've never had any friends either, if you exclude my cousin and dad. And Sean Walcott, I suppose. But he's more a family friend, really."
"He told his parents about my episode last weak in gym, who in turn told my cousin and dad. Which got me grounded. I'm being petty."
Math. She does it.
"Do you know if lacrosse tryouts have been announced yet? I was still hoping to take some pictures."
"So accommodating, I'm starting to think you wanna be my friend or something," she jokes. "Despite all the suspicion and everything."
"I think you meant 'because' of all the suspicion. How am I going to learn anything if we don't get along?"
"Ahhh. That makes sense then. Why do you really want to know? Is this town so mundane that you need a little mystery to spice things up?"
"And here I thought I was at least a little hard to figure out."
She laughs. "You seem to be a pretty open book kind of person actually. Or I'm good at reading people."
"You can test that theory. Try reading someone you've never met."
Her quarry is currently talking to the student in front of him, who's ignoring him.
Well, he's currently talking to another student, but she's not really listening.
She can hear everything he's saying, and smell whatever cocktail of drugs he's taking. She could discern the specifics if she had any prior exposure.
"-next time, I promise. C'mon, you know you want to. Nobody passes up on a Diaz shindig."
"Okay, so. He's self-conscious about something that results in overcompensation and the relentless need to hit on anyone and everyone. Maybe has ADD? I mean, I'm not sure, but he's definitely taking something."
"I mean, I don't really care enough to go talk to him. Is there any particular reason you want me to or are you just curious?"
"I'm trying to see how useful you'll be when we start campaigning."
"And who said I'm interested in campaigning? Maybe I just wanna reap the end result."
