Today, Beacon Hills High School prepares to welcome a new student! Several new students, in fact; a whole class of them. As summer gives way to fall, so too does freedom give way to restriction. Get in your seats, everyone.
"Juliet? It's Matt. I guess you know that, it's my voice and my number. Are you okay?"
She sits up suddenly, smiling. "Matt, yes, sorry. I didn't see it on the screen, had to answer it quickly..." She pauses and starts whispering again, "Ah, yeah, I'm- it's fine... did something happen?"
"Just wanted to make sure you were okay. We missed you at school today. One day in and you're already playing hooky?"
Juliet laughs quietly, "Um, no. I- me and my dad got into a fight," She pauses, and listens- but doesn't hear anything, so she continues, "He wants to pull me out of school. So."
"I screwed up. And he's protective. He just wants me to be safe... but I'm hoping he'll change his mind. I mean, he can't keep me- home forever." She pauses. "Did you really miss me?"
"You're more interesting than most of the people in this town, and I barely know you. Of course I missed you."
She ignores her father, "Um." She pauses and moves away from the door. "I think so too. I mean, you're awesome. You like photography and Shakespeare and you know who Ibsen is. I missed you too."
Zach starts loudly unlocking the door.
"You're the most interesting person I've met."
Zach opens the door and walks towards her. "Who are you talking to? Give it to me."
"Yes. Stay away from my daughter. You are not going to get involved. This is for your own good."
He hangs up.
And Juliet stays in her dusty cell looking the definition of innocence in the vain hope her dad will change his mind.
"Hello, Mr. Salvatore? Your daughter Juliet wasn't seen in school yesterday, and we wanted to inform you. We haven't heard anything from you about her absence yet, so we thought we should reach out."
