There is a bar. In the bar is a demon. The demon is sad.
"I would be really surprised if you had the species in question. I'll check." Chips in his world?
"You don't. Anyway a fairy is like me but with telekinesis instead of matter conjuration."
"Ah. And angels?"
"They change stuff. Would work fine but they don't have the range demons do and can't travel as fast as fairies."
"...what sorts of things, to how much detail?"
"Uh, they have to learn to do their own detail work but quite a lot of detail and any matter. Why?"
"It's not anything like as urgent as the other, but gene therapy is risky and difficult to come by, and I know some people who would be very glad of it."
"They can do that, if these people know what they want to be changed to. But at this point we're talking about a whole summoning rollout and I don't even know if it works in your world."
"It's not that many people, and it's by and large the same ones on the planet; if I can summon at all, I rather think I could bring an angel with me and have them do it within a day at the outside. But yes, verifying that it's possible at all should really be the first step."
"It might be that you can summon here but not there, or vice-versa."
"In the former case I'd be inclined to summon an angel here, as well as a fairy, and invite them to visit for a while, with someone holding the door. The latter case would be unfortunate."
"I suppose in extremis you could try doing it where I came from."
"...maybe. I am also reluctant to risk losing the door."
"Up to you."
Nod. "It's a tempting opportunity, but I've been here three years, I can do longer."
"Yeah I'm not gonna leave till my problem is solved either."
"Resurrection seems likely to be even harder to find than very efficient bomb disposal, but I certainly understand the decision."
"People you knew?"
"Not everyone wants to talk about these things, but if you do, it wouldn't be my first time hearing it."
Sigh. "Should probably tell you before you start completing summoning circles on my say-so anyhow. There was a war. They were uninvolved. I made a deal with the Enemy and destroyed their planet for an end to it and I'm halfway through putting back fifty-four million of them on a duplicate of the planet but a million are a species I can't put back."
"I see. Was it a good deal?"
"It did what I had in mind."
