"Oh for fuck's sake Ruby!"

"What no! How come I'm supposed to go hide!"

It seems people continue to scatter! Except for a couple of people who seem to be curious about the person with the gun and are not in fact scattering because they want to find out his life story, apparently.

It seems like the people the other side of the quad have noticed the scattering and screaming, because they seem to be choosing to take another direction off campus. Or into a building. Anywhere that's, y'know, not towards the screaming.

The gunman is walking at a moderate pace but he's getting pretty close. He fires another shot, which induces more shrieking, although it doesn't appear to hit anyone.

Right, okay, Jay is running for a building even if his crazy friends aren't.

Mim makes a face at Ruby and drags Harmony by her collar a moment later, but Jay's gotten engulfed in a bunch of people who suddenly decided hiding behind some bushes was not such a good life decision after all.

Oh well. They'll just head for a building and hopefully meet up again when they can.

Ruby: still cautiously approaching the shooter at an angle.

The few curious people: have decided that they don't want to be shot, and that seems to outweigh their curiosity, so they do start scattering.

They don't do it particularly quickly, though.

He's shooting again. Someone makes an awful noise and goes down.

Ruby's got her hands up and open at chest-level, saying something calm and quiet to the masked man.

Mim practically tosses Harmony through the doors of the geology building, then starts moving all the people who are trying to peer out through the windows down into the basement.

Jay, in the history building, has his phone out and dialing just in case no one's updated the campus police on the shooter's location --surely they should be here any minute.

You would expect so! But they don't currently seem to be in evidence, which is a rather grave failing seeing as the person seems to be actively shooting people.

Other people in the history building are mostly trying to get far, far away from the windows, preferably to the other side of the building near an emergency exit so that if the shooter comes in after them they can run out of it. A couple of people are hiding in one of the bathrooms, hoping that he won't think to check there if he does in fact go that way.

Theo is apparently in one of the arts buildings, near the history building, and is suggesting likewise that people get away from the windows.

He does like the other people did, backing away to the other side of the building, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be an obvious emergency exit and he doesn't want to go back in case he gets caught out, so he ends up sitting near the door to one of the bathrooms with his friend. The girls disappeared into one of the small classrooms earlier, and the other people seem to have gone into a different wing of the building, so they're alone there.

The police have been notified of the situation and are getting a SWAT team. Jay is definitely not the first person to call them. They ask him to stay on the phone anyway. He hangs up and texts Ruby.

<Jay> r u an idiot? worry about shooter later shot people now
<Jay> seriously come hide
<Jay> ur sister is gonna be worried

They aren't giving him 'read' notifications. He sighs and texts Mim.

<Jay> yall safe???
<Mim> yes are you? lost you!
<Jay> im good! tell R come hide!!
<Mim> do you seriously think that'll work
<Jay> !!! GUN !!!!! idiot
<Mim> take cover & mute ringer stay safe
<Jay> kk
<Mim> love you
<Jay> lym

...okay that last gunshot was seriously close.

--and that one was really close and there was breaking glass sounds that is not good.

He runs towards the back of the building.

Other people: are still present at the back of the building. Someone's whispering that they don't know where their friend is, they were right there, and now they're gone. A couple of people are crying. Most seem to be in some form of shock.

Someone opens the emergency exit and makes a run for it. Hopefully the shooter is not available to notice.

Crying people -- he should probably help the crying people -- he needs to get out of here -- that was another gunshot -- he wishes the sirens would shut up --

Jay shoves a folding chair up against the inside door, picks up another chair and hands it to one of the bigger guys. "If you're going to stay at least barricade yourselves," he tells him.

Personally, he's taking the risk of sprinting for the next building. He cracks the exit open, peers out, and makes a break for it. No shooter in sight.

He makes it to the next building over -- art -- slams through the door and pulls it closed after him.

People: have backed away from the windows. In fact, where he enters the building, it's rather empty and quiet.

Right, he's just gonna figure out the locking mechanism on the door ... great, yep ... and then head further towards the center of the building.

Boy, you know what? He might meet a few people in that case! Or at least hear some whimpering.

Apparently some people can't keep quiet in such a situation, even if it'd really, overall, be to their benefit.

Arghhhhh okay well the shooter's in the other building right now and he probably doesn't have a safer option unless he wants to try running across the quad which he doesn't, so. Jay sets about talking to people and calming them down and distributing hugs where necessary and also suggesting they mute their phones and barricade doors. He's not as good at the reassurance thing as Ruby but he's not terrible either.

… Huh, you know what, someone's phone looks rather interestingly shiny.

It also happens to be just lying on the floor, out of anyone's obvious 'personal possessions' range. How curious.

Perhaps he should pick it up and ask whose it is.

Oh, yeah, if someone's mom is texting them and not getting an answer they've got to be super worried, that would be super awful. Jay retrieves the phone and looks it over for anything obviously identifying or distinctive.

Well, the reflection is somewhat– curious.

It seems like it's a bit off? Maybe like there's a smudge on the screen or something, but it's somewhat eyecatchingly off.

Huh. Polarized screen protector or something? Or wait, is that their lock screen for some reason? He squints at it.
