"And she would have to work at it," the Master admits.

"I didn't remove everything, not yet, and my TARDIS is definitely on the side of the keeping the universe intact. Still, she'd be much less likely to decide to try and get vengeance by destroying everything and everyone if she wasn't alone."

"You do recall that it was the Time Lords that gave me a psychic field, not the other way around?"

The Master waves a hand, which causes him to slowly start turning counterclockwise.

"Yes, yes, but Promise needs to know what it's like."

"He gave me a list of people we could consult and I thought you sounded cool what with the removing compulsions from people thing."

"Yes," the voice sounds pleased.

"None of the soldiers that accepted the psychic fields have regretted it, to my knowledge, if that is what you wish to know."

"That is interesting, but since I'm not the same species it's not statistically guaranteed. I'd like more detail on the process and the adjustment and the result."

"I want to meet this TARDIS of yours, make sure I'm not helping the last Time Lord teach another species how to enslave her."

"I'll ask," the Master says.

He has rotated so he is now upside down relative to Promise.

"If I were the enslaving type I could have stayed home."

"I'm sorry," the voice says, less forcefully than it was speaking before.

"But the Time Lords didn't leave the best impression and the stories I've heard about your friend don't inspire trust. I'd like to make sure."

The Master whistles a brief, familiar tune.

The TARDIS appears.

He pulls himself inside.

The TARDIS vanishes.

She reappears moments later.

The injured TARDIS appears next to her.

Her current form is a black, featureless sphere. She's almost impossible to see against the dark backdrop of space behind her.

The being inside the star and the injured TARDIS begins to have a conversation.

The Master emerges from inside the TARDIS.

"I'm not sure if it's polite to pat TARDISes," remarks Promise.

"I'm definitely the best person to ask about manners," the Master says, grinning.

"But I don't think she'd mind."

Promise pats the sphere.

The sphere hums gently.

After she finishes her conversation with the being inside the star, she vanishes.

A trail of fire from the star separates off and forms into the shape of a rough humanoid, sitting crosslegged in the air in front of them.

"Yes," they say, in a voice much softer than the one previously emanating from inside the star.

"You were telling the truth. I still think I was right to doubt it."

"It wasn't too costly to double-check, it seems reasonable to me."

"What exactly is it that you want to know?"
