It's her first evening away from home, and even Papa's strong mental presence has left her range by now.
It's lonely.
She knows that humans aren't lesser than mutants, per se, but she's still used to a different flavor of minds thrumming against hers when she's trying to go to sleep.
She and Emily aren't the only mutants on campus, though. There aren't a lot of them, but there's one other, at least...

He tries to imagine it. He doesn't get it, not nearly, but what he does imagine - a network of colored lights painted over a black sky - is pretty gorgeous.
I can do anything.
And--she shows him. It's a completely different kind of qualia than anything he's ever experienced before; minds are like so; there is a spacial dimension and a whole bunch of non-spacial dimensions some of which have some kind of magnitude and some of which don't; and it has an aesthetic.
Aww.
Wanna see what yours feels like? she asks, not taking down the illusion.
He doesn't have words. He's never seen himself this way before, and he's mesmerized.
Eventually, he manages

It takes him a little while, but he calms down. He's still holding the images (the sensations, the sounds, whatever they really are) in his mind, making sure he can remember them later.

nah. i've been out of there for a year. saving and stuff.
plus i wouldn't want them to come anyway and the feeling's probably mutual.
