...Yeah her fingerprints don't match anything.

Proooobably they can get away with fitting her in in half a period, if they want to get this over with? Or there are times later that day.

Huh. Surprisingly short wait times. Sure, she's ok with that if Summer is.

It's just, Celene looked sad, and they had a little slack left, and probably if they end up running out of the slack people won't mind too much? There's stuff to do nearby, if you've found yourself with an extra period or two to burn.

Yes that's slightly exploitable by people inclined to look sad, but this isn't the kind of thing they feel the need to be robust to.

(Sounds good to Summer!)

Huh.

She has no idea how the logistics of this could possibly work. Do they just like, not run with a FIFO system and instead leave gaps so they can quickly move things around for emergencies? That does make sense.

Well, anyways, she'll sit down with Summer.

...

...

She leans over and hugs her again. This is nice.

She'll rest her head on Summer's shoulder, if she's ok with that?

d'aww, of course Summer's okay with that! Celene gets headpats.

And a little while later... they have a little office in the back with a computer open for them! Does Celene want Summer to come with?

Sure! Why not.

Okay. So, what in particular is Celene here for, exactly?

...No, Celene, don't look instinctively over at Summer.

She takes a deep breath.

"Ok, so. I uh, wanted to get my DNA registered in the system, and..."

Should she explain her story. She's not sure if she should explain her story. There's probably no harm to explaining her story, but,

...ok fine, she looks over to Summer. "Should I explain, you know." She vaguely waves her hands around.

Summer thinks for a moment. "I mean, it'll probably be helpful if the DNA analysis lab gets context at some point, if nothing else? And you probably want to set up stuff so you can access social services and everything?"

"...yeah, ok."

She turns back to the Nucleus officer.

"Uh, I woke up in Summer's apartment with no memory of living in Eifwen and a complete false-or-maybe-not-i-don't-know-anymore memory of living on a different planet with identical geography as Tinya but completely different culture and civilization, up to the point of my death. We were unsure of whether or not I was registered in the system or not, and as it turns out I'm not, and Summer had the idea of checking if my DNA had unique properties, and also yeah I wanted to get registered for social services and basic income and so on."

...Well, they can definitely do a cheek swab and send it over for analysis, and then get to work on registering Celene. The basic income would be kept on hold until they can verify that Celene isn't a second identity of someone already receiving basic income, which the DNA and fingerprints should be pretty much fine for (though they are, of course, not the only way to do it.)

Since this officer hasn't seen enough about Celene to suggest otherwise, their current lead hypothesis is more-or-less "weird plurality incident." It's not very common for a new headmate fronting to cause actual amnesia, usually the dissociative barriers are weaker than that, but it does happen.

(In fact, they expect Summer has also worked this out, and's choosing not to pick the fight with Celene about it? Celene doesn't appear to be so detached from reality as to be at immediate risk, so that's basically an okay decision.)

"That's... technically possible, I suppose, but I do also know how to speak another language which Emergency Services seems to think is coherent and doesn't match any known Eifweni language at first glance" (She briefly demonstrates).

"And like, for that to happen, my original fronter would have had to... create or discover an undocumented language and learn it to fluency? I don't remember ever learning Eifweni and I'm not sure how I know how to speak it.

Oh and also my original fronter would've had to not have their fingerprints in the database, which is additional bits of improbability but of course significantly fewer than some sort of magical universe teleportation."

...Oh. Huh. Yeah, they're still personally going with the "technically possible" one over the "impossible magic" one, but they do understand why Celene wasn't totally sure and they hope she can find more decisive evidence.

They open a drawer and grab a tablet. Let's see, where's the registration form...

Ah, here it is. They slide the tablet over to Celene.

She probably wants to check off "DNA profile" and "fingerprints"? Fingerprints are the ubiquitous thing for a quick ID check—in Nucleus, at any rate. In some other cities people are less likely to lose their phone or whatnot and don't benefit as much from using something it's nearly impossible not to have on hand.

It'd be challenging to not have your fingerprints on hand, yes.

Is she supposed to fill out "PROVIDENCE ID"? That's the type of thing it seems would be reserved for Providence officials, since she uh, hasn't been assigned one yet, but it's in the same section and font as "Current Aliases" which is the thing she would fill out.

Well, regardless, she fills out "Celene Nightingale" in the "Current Aliases" section, and...

Uhhhhh, she doesn't have any contact info (yet). She should probably register for an email and phone number or equivalent at some point. Should she put down Summer's for now? How hard is it to get that changed. Ugh.

She doesn't know Summer's address, she'll hand the tablet over to Summer after she fills out the rest of the form.

Sure, she'll check off DNA profile and fingerprints. Is there a reason she wouldn't want to also fill out "retinal scan" and "voice print" and "other biometric id?"

Wait, Celene's name comes with bonus content? Summer didn't know this.

Yeah, yeah, it's a surname aka family name, as opposed to given name which is the name you're given at birth by your parents, traditionally inherited patrilineally, if you're a woman and you marry a man you generally take his surname, for the most part people refer to you by your given name and the surname is used in conjunction with the given name to help identify you in legal contexts, and sometimes you're addressed with your surname and a title in formal contexts as a sign of respect, it's a whole thing, Celene already wrote out this whole spiel in her head at some point while thinking about addressing cultural differences on alien planets.

She's still disappointed she didn't get to do the whole set theory construction of numbers thing. She always looked forward to doing the whole set-theory-construction-of-numbers-when-visiting-an-alien-planet-with-a-language-barrier-thing, which somehow exists as a coherent concept in her head despite it not being a trope she has seen happen in any book she has ever read, since she was a small child. Curse you, magical auto translator.

Just kidding she's very glad the magical auto translator is a thing.

Yeah, some more traditionalist cultures still do stuff sorta like that? But family names were more useful when, like, your family is one of the most important facts about you. Nowadays you're more likely to see someone take a name corresponding to, say, an intellectual lineage.

Is she supposed to fill out "PROVIDENCE ID"?

It can generate one when you submit, but if you have a favorite unused 64-bit natural you can put it in.

Sure, she'll check off DNA profile and fingerprints. Is there a reason she wouldn't want to also fill out "retinal scan" and "voice print" and "other biometric id?"

Not in particular, does she want to run those?

Well, Celene's surname isn't actually from her family or marriage, actually.

Nor is her given name from her parents, for that matter.

Anyways, um. She'll check off retinal scan. Not voice print or other biometrics though, she has no idea what other biometrics entails even if she is kind of curious.

Does she have a favorite 64 bit natural? She could bring a significant one from earth, maybe. Does she remember anything like that?

...no, and anything she could plausibly generate would have a generation function simple enough that it's already taken. She'll leave it blank.

Anyways, she'll pass the tablet off to Summer to fill in the address and contact info, before continuing onto the next section.

Nor is her given name from her parents, for that matter.

Well who did give her it, then?

Meeeeeeeeee :3

...Surely that's a taken name?
