"Hello. Did you manage to enspell the water?"

"I did."

She grins. "That usually takes five or six days even with some experience."

"One thing I am not is a slow learner."

"I've noticed." Grin: continues. "My next suggestion is really challenging, though. Do you have any questions, first?"

"Nothing pressing. What is your suggestion?"

"Using the mage-sense as a sense. Just walking around without walking into anything is pretty easy, you'll probably be able to just do that, but using it for actual vision and hearing is very hard."

Occlus gives it a try, extending tendrils of sense out across the room. This offers quite a bit of information, much more than her normal senses. But by this point she is quite practiced at assigning processing to the bits of herself that are not exactly herself.

She stands up, makes a circuit of the room, pauses in front of the kobold, then sits back down behind her desk.

The kobold nods, grinning. "Yeah, that's about what I expected. Vision and hearing are pretty straightforward, it just takes a lot of practice to understand detailed things or things that change quickly - it's possible to understand what someone's saying to you while you're trancing, but it takes a lot of practice to be able to do it at a normal pace, almost as much as learning a language in the first place. And it's possible to use the sense for smell, kind of, but you'll need to learn each smell individually; in general it's not worth it."

"Do you mind repeating that?"

Occlus trances again.

And she does, mimicking the tone of voice of the original utterance as well.

Those patterns are definitely the sounds, but Occlus needs more examples. She activates the recording function on her datapad.

"Once more?" Her voice is softer than usual.

And again.

Hm. Almost, but not quite. She has the recording now though, she can work on it later. Occlus breaks the trance.

"Done, for now? I do have something else to ask before I go."

"Yes. What is it?"

"I told Satele about what you did with your force signature the other day, and they were surprised and curious - it turns out that learning to do something like that is part of changing from being a Sith to being a Jedi, and it usually takes months. They also said that if you'd be willing to show the Council that you can do that, it'd help them trust you; I can probably bring them to Milliways if you'd be interested in that but don't want to go to Tython for it."

"...Can I ask you not to repeat what I am about to tell you?"

Nod. "As long as it doesn't put anyone in danger for me to keep it a secret."

"The fact that Sith and Jedi have such different methods for commanding the Force is almost entirely a historical accident. It really makes very little difference to a person's moral philosophy whether they draw the Force in or let it pass through, unless that philosophy is already very susceptible to change for other reasons."

She nods. "It wouldn't be the strangest magical effect I've seen if it did matter, but that does make more sense than what Satele was asking about - they wanted to know if it changed your personality, which... I don't know you very well, but I get the impression you wouldn't've been so willing to do it if you thought there was a risk of that."

Smirk. "Indeed not."

"But if the Jedi wish to believe it, it is a useful delusion for my purposes. You may convey to them that I will demonstrate my capacity to switch methods without difficulty in Milliways to Satele and no more than two other Council members of her choosing."

She nods. "...Raafi might want to come, too. I don't think that adds any complications, but I can talk to them and make sure."

"The scarred fellow who was in the infirmary the first time? He described you as 'meddlesome'. I cannot bring myself to disagree with that assessment."

The kobold chuckles, quietly. "Yes, that's them. They have other magic - only sort of learnable, you wouldn't be interested - and might want to check if changing methods works how Satele thinks it does, but I'd be very surprised if they decided to say anything about it - they like stories, and they like knowing the truth of things so they can tell more accurate stories, but they usually don't like interfering in them. With some exceptions, but I wouldn't expect that to be one at all."
