Parents arrange themselves on furniture. "So what are you doing home?"

She glances at her mom. "It's - kind of a long story."

"We've got news," she says. "Good news, but big news. Kaylee has a big opportunity, and we're invited."

(Grin. She's got such a good mom.)

Blink. "What sort of opportunity? A medical internship?"

Sheepish grin.

"Not really, no. Kay, I think it's your show. Do you have a demonstration?"

Okay, serious face. She pulls a morpho-blue cantrip out of her pocket, holds it up for her dad to see. "Can you give me a small object, something that you could set on the coffee table and hold in one hand? Not a specific one that exists somewhere, just a type."

He's frowning pensively. "...A watch?"

"All right. Hold out your hand?"

...He does.

She closes her eyes.

A moment later, the coin disappears, and a gold analog watch appears just above her dad's outstretched hand and lands neatly in his palm.

He examines the watch.

"So," he says, "a very big opportunity."

Giggle.  "Pretty big, yeah."
