He's not leaving the ship anywhere near the actual waystation. He isn't a dumbass. His ride's gotten trashed by some nass-head who doesn't like his face three times at this point and it has occurred to him by now that he might want to approach his supply runs with a little more finesse.
So instead he's parked the ship several miles out from anyone he might end up in a fight with and is heading for the waystation on bike.
Something, maybe a meteor, shoots from the sky down-ward, hitting the ground in the distance with a BOOM.
What the sprock.
He instinctively swerves to stay out of the path of whatever that was and continues in this fashion for a while.
...Then he turns back in that direction, once the dust has started settling and his nerves have stopped shouting at them, because he is actually pretty curious what just crash-landed over there.
(Just getting close enough that he can see. He isn't reckless.)
