"If you aren't Reiko - give me the Book of Friends."

"Why do you want it?"

Rather than answering, they lunge at Tsubaki.

Nope she's gonna kick it in the face.

They try to dodge - not entirely successfully, and Tsubaki's kick sends them sliding out of the house, twisting and deforming before lunging back at a higher angle - just as there's a rustle behind her -

Tsubaki is angry. Out on the street is one thing, but she won't have this in the house. Not this time.

That anger seems to give her blows greater force.

- Also there'd been a second youkai after her earlier, one who seems to have joined this assault, but who's clearly calling out for Reiko to return their name -

"I will if you stop attacking!"

The youkai don't seem to want to stop attacking! And also might damage the house if the fight continues here.

She's got to get them out-

- A burst of bright light and an enormous wind blow them out of the house, and Tsubaki is lifted off her feet -

To find herself nestled in sleek black fur, hurtling over the landscape - slow at first, the two youkai giving chase away from the house - and then faster, zooming down into the trees and zigzagging to lose them once they're far enough from the house -

"Wait- Stop-"

"Ungrateful human," she grumbles, but comes to a gentle landing in a field. "Do you want to be attacked?"

"They know where I live. I can't just run."

"You have the Book of Friends. You can simply command them to never come near you or your home, or to cut it out with the violence."

She shakes her head. "No. That's not... It's not right."

"A moral qualm?"

"Maybe. I don't know. It feels wrong."

"I didn't make the book. I just inherited it."

"You have a right to use what you've inherited."

"Maybe. But that means I can choose not to, too."

"You should just give it up, if you won't even use it, and if you can't even protect yourself."

"You didn't answer before. If there was a way to give the names back."

She tilts her head. "You're sure about this?"

"Yes."
