"Just form an intent, and then do it. Magic's an act of will."

"Easy as that?"

"Just so."

Well. Worth a try. To impress Sayuri-san.

Line herself up, coil, focus on intending to jump all the way up easily, and... jump.

She makes it! To an approving grin from Sayuri. "An impressive first try."

Tiny blush.

"Thanks."

"You must have a lot of power..."

"Never had anything to compare to."

"Most people would get nowhere with instructions like that - it takes power to force a result."

"Oh. I guess that makes sense, sensei's usually pretty bad at explanations..."

Grumble. "I'm fitting the instruction to the student!"

"Putting forth the absolute minimum required."

Humph. "I'll stay down here, then, if you don't want my effort."

"Can you keep an eye on the potter, then?"

"Sure, whatever," she says, sprawling out next to him.

"Thanks, sensei."

She'll let the trapdoor fall back shut.

And Sayuri pulls out a flashlight, flicking it on and sweeping it around.

- Revealing an attic in fact full of ceramic cats, watching them.

...Oh.

"Hello?" she tries.

And she hears the voice of her passenger respond. 'They want to know what you're doing here.'

"We.. wanted to know what you were going to do with the potter?"

There's a sense of a conversation happening just out of hearing, then: 'They want to protect him.'

"The cats say they wanted to protect the potter," she says to Sayuri.

Hum. "This entire building is very protected, isn't it?"

'They say it was meant to protect them.'
