"Don't have local currency."

"Nothing you're willing to pawn either? Well, that's your business, I got shopping to do."

The interrupting woman strolls off. The two guards go back to being bored at their posts.

"How much likelier is an ambush than a junk heap?" Lorica asks the guards when she’s gone.

"...Eh. Eighty twenty it's safe? You're kind of an unappealing mark and the 'Tinos try to keep H3 clean-ish."

"Maybe more. Expensive looking armor, no gun."

"Yeah good point. Hard to tell. I'll look for you on the evening blood reel if it is an ambush after all."

"Do I need to get one just for show? Not really my style."

"It would probably be a good idea if you're wearing armor at all. Honestly I'm wondering if you're playing coy and you've got an integrated weapons system. Some solos like that oh I couldn't hurt a fly look, but the armor doesn't really scream... That."

"Usually I have drones!"

This gets interested noises. "Wouldn't have taken you for a techie. Don't those usually hang out a block away and hack computers? Not walk around in some kinda power armor."

"Or stay in a private workshop and sell shit, not go out themselves."

"I had a complicated work situation and it's comfier than it looks."

"Is that, oh, with a corp, solo doing solo gigs, something in between, or none of our business?"

"They don't let us have drones. They keep getting fucking hacked. Plus 'not in the threat profile'."

"It'd be a really long story. Threat profile?"

"Door duty ain't exactly the top of the security corporate ladder. There are more layers of security, those get the special toys."

"Our job is to scan people for weapons, not patrol the block and look for trouble. Technically regs say we just stand there even if we see someone get attacked right in front of us, if they're not fucking with the building. It could be a distraction." Eyeroll.

"Right? I'd-"

"Shh, hey, Ken, shut up, Lina just badged into the office, she'll be at her desk in thirty."

"-Uh. Move along, citizen. Can't talk anymore."

"Gotcha." She moves along. Can Rete figure out where Maybe Ambush Maybe Junk is?

Yep. It has a giant H3 across its giant facade.

She will probably not run afoul of not being registered with air traffic control if she's pretty close to the building when she rises into the air to have a look into the window indicated.

How is she intending to tell which one is Unit 12 from the outside? Anyway, most of them have blacked out windows or blinds. And Rete might notice that her flying is attracting some pedestrian attention. People are filming on their phones and with their cybernetic eyes.

It's not like people never do that at home! She was hoping it would be obvious from the layout. Has Rete figured out the internet well enough to find the blueprints or anything online?

...Yeah, Rete can find the right window.

It's unblocked, and inside is a huge, possibly molding, pile of cardboard and plastic boxes and miscellaneous junk. Couple people picking through it. One startles at her in the window.

"Hey! Heard this stuff was free if I wanna haul it?" she calls.

It's kind of difficult to shout through a closed glass window.

Startled-person shouts something to the other guy and they both book it out of the apartment unit. (No balcony here, just a flat glass window.)

...well, it's not an ambush, though she wishes she hadn't startled them. She will try entering the building conventionally.

Well, some folks dressed like a blinged-out Christian mafia intercept her, "Hey, chica. That armor of yours and flying around spyin' in windows doesn't exactly say 'peaceful neighbor'. We got families here, we got a community. I don't have to explain what we do to troublemakers, do I?"

"I don't have anywhere to leave it or anything else to wear. It's a long story. I don't want to start anything, I just wanted to make sure the thing I'd been told I could find in that window was legit."
