"Do I have an alarm clock?"

"Knew we were forgetting something..." He looks distracted for a moment, then a purple monkey brings one in. "You do now."

"Okay, thank you."

"No problem. I'll pick up a new one tomorrow some time. Breakfast will be ready at eight, too. Pancakes. Sleep well."

She sets the alarm for seven thirty and is downstairs by seven forty-five.

Where there are pancakes. "Sleep well?"

"Pretty okay."

"Good. Eat up!" Large portion sizes are apparently a thing here. First the stir fry, now the stack of pancakes.

She eats a reasonably large number of pancakes, but cautiously, always checking for nonverbal approval before she takes another one.

All the pancakes, if she wants. He keeps making more from a box of batter for himself. Syrup and butter and blueberries too.

"That Forrest guy, the foster guy, is going to swing by at ten or so I think. Just to chat and see if you have any complaints."

Uncomfortable shrug. "It would have been better if we had made it to the library but that's not your fault."

"Yeah... It's going to be, interesting, having three sets of responsibilities. We can pop over there real quick in a bit if you like - they open at 9 on Sundays."

"That'd be really great."

"Okay. Shoes and coat - or just your magic outfit - and by the door at eight fifty. I'm going to take care of a few chores real quick. You done eating?"

Nod nod.

She goes with her magic outfit.

The library is a relatively small one, with one story. Still a lot of books at least. They seem to know Kent. "I'll fill out most of the forms for getting you a card if you want - you can just go browse."

"Okay. Thank you." Young Adult fiction?

A respectable collection. Nothing particularly new and shiny, but some of the popular books from a few years ago are available. And plenty of less famous or older ones.

"How many can I get?"

"Two of the blue stickers-" The newest or most popular ones "-At once, plus eight of anything else. Return or re-checkout after one week for blue stickers, two for not. Usually you can re-checkout anything you like, the stickers are just for when we get the newest Stella Rift novel or something and have lots of reservations on it. But you do have to actually bring it in to re-checkout."

"Oh wow. Okay."

She comes to the desk with ten books, two of them with blue stickers.

"Loading up, huh? You do need the card, though. Sign the form here, here, and here."

He glances at the books. All YA fiction?

Not all; a couple of them are adult science fiction.

She signs the form in the places.

And now she has a little plastic card marked as 'Sandstone Creek Public Library Card - Anna-Seraphina Sawyer' and ten books.

They head home. Kent rambles about animals some more.

Anise pays about 75% attention to his rambling and 25% attention to her books.
