Since reading magic theory books and thinking about spell design are both things that can be done while cuddling, Siva's been doing less of the "divide her time between Tanaikon and the library" thing over the past few days since a certain emotionally complicated conversation. Cuddling is good. Falling asleep in her lover's arms is also good. Siva did that tonight.
It's not where she wakes up.
"Adorable," says Esarkan. "You can go away now. Do introduce me to your extremely foreign boyfriend if he appears."
"I will if he agrees," she says, "but if he instead wants to never interact with you, ever, I'm not going to try to argue him around."
"Well, you'd probably know better than I would whether that's a good idea."
"He is three fucking thousand years old, I'm sure he knows himself much better than I do."
"Well, true enough. I just hope that it doesn't turn out that pain magic can't do interworld transit, or that it takes years."
"Yeah, that'd be inconvenient."
He waves a vague farewell at his father. And now they can return to his rooms!
Someone has been in and taken off all the dust covers and generally cleaned the place up while they were having that conversation.

"If he doesn't show up in the next few weeks, I'm sure Father will go looking for a soulbearer who could help. Might take a while to find one, but - I don't think you'll be stuck here forever."
"Okay. It's not--that it's not perfectly nice here, I just--miss him. And find it kind of uncomfortable that everyone's scared of you, even though I know perfectly well why. And there's a vague worry that people will look at me not being afraid of you and conclude I'm another Nahira or something."
"And this is the flaw with the pocket thing," she nods. "I don't know, I guess it's not a rational worry..."
"I'm not planning to make trouble, anyway." Hug. "So I'm mostly not going to be around people who're scared of me if I can avoid it."
"Well, it'll be a while, but I am used to having access to the best library in a world."
"So? Whoever Father's got translating, it seems like they don't even need to follow us around the palace like that fellow Kelora dug up. If you want to read I bet you can read."
