In a remote meadow, on Earth, Olivia counts through her last-second checklist.
Aspect of the Phoenix, the skin-hugging aura of fire she is never without, and seven other Aspects selected for safe and fruitful exploration. She has a Detection up, though of course right now the only source of magic in this meadow is herself. Above her head circles her usual Starsign, scrambling the shadow she casts into the future, and carrying a full complement of stars in blacks, greens, and reds. Her Haste is under her own control, cast with a charge from the wooden pendant hanging around her neck. So is her Life Bubble, a magical spacesuit providing her air and nourishment. Stabilize, three links tying her across distance to the friend watching over her life, lies dormant within her. Wellness, too, is waiting, ready to begin spreading when Olivia gives the nudge. Also waiting are her Layered Wards, prepared to spring into action against any attack. Meditate shields her thoughts, and Mage Armor her body; more supplies are waiting in her pocketspace in case she needs them.
I'm ready. Last Augury check?
The answer is quick.
No news, so you're good.
Even Augury can't pierce her own Starsign. If Olivia's future cannot be read, all that means is that the one controlling her future is her, not a force or a fate too strong for her to handle.
Time to go. World Gate, Olivia casts, forcing a rift between realities. She's not fully opening it yet, just sliding her senses across to look out from the other side of the forming rift.
