"Death is a mercy that brings an end to suffering."

I guess that counts.

The inquisitors are doing what. They barely even exist any more.

"Those are not crimes, and aiding the Inquisitorius is illegal under the laws of the New Republic. You should let her go."

"Maybe you haven't noticed, Skywalker, but the New Republic isn't here."

He looks Ellen directly in the eye. "It's anywhere people decide to be better."

"It's been two days and this is the third time. Do you do this to everyone. How did you survive to adulthood."

"Practice." He hasn't looked away.

"Chuk-tan can you ask what their names are, and tell me what it sounds like to you?"

"I'm Chuk Tan what are your names?"

If Ellen isn't answering him he's just going to give her a soulful gaze and then look away.

"I'm Luke Skywalker. It's good to meet you, Chuk."

She wouldn't normally want to give away her name in circumstances this confusing, but apparently this is her life now and it's not like Skywalker couldn't tell them before she could shoot him.

"Mara."

CLEAR

"Sorry for all that. Comms are a bit iffy here, but my handlers have just confirmed I'm not hallucinating Master Skywalker.
The Inquisition she is talking about is a different one than the one you are thinking of, but the same kinda cunts.

In order to be able to keep Chuk from being burnt and help other people I had to make certain promises about not letting prisoners escape, and I keep my promises even when there aren't hostages, which there are.

But jurisdictional issues might get in the way of what I can do.

Though I should note for Chuk specifically this gives our lawyer a lot of time for an appeal that has a decent chance of succeeding as long as she doesn't cause more problems.

Anyway, I can't directly rebel, and to be honest past attempts have gotten a bit... massacrey.

But if a legendary figure with a proven history of leading rebellions happened to shut down the Inquisition... I would officially take no stance on that."

Master Yoda would definitely have said you should ignore hostage-taking. It only encourages people to take more hostages. If the Sith are your enemy, which they should be, they probably only took hostages in the first place because they foresaw you responding in prophecy. It happens rarely now, but he can still sense it dimly when Han wakes up screaming, and in a way he did choose for that to happen.

On the other hand, Master Yoda lost his war against the Sith, didn't he.

He smiles slightly. Even the worst people have some kind of good in them, happens every time. "I'm glad to hear it. Jurisdictionally, then, Chuk is a free sentient being here with attendant rights."

Leia would say something diplomatically clever here. Something like...

"Did you specifically promise not to tell me where the Inquisition live and how to destroy them?"

Stars help her, maybe the Light Side is real, there's no other way he's still alive.

The thing possessing Ellen was talking about punishing people for not-technically-crimes, and that doesn't sound ideal for a woman who has never technically broken Imperial law. She's still the only person here who's actually armed, if Skywalker wants to make even more enemies then she'll let him for now. She doesn't want to abandon Karrde but she'll do it sooner than die, and she can survive alone in these woods for a good long time.

"The Inquisition is from the Paktan regions of the Park Penumbra. Which I expect to be able to return gate to once astrological conditions align. Not a hyperspace thing, more of a Darth Vitiate style teleportation, though I want to be clear it doesn't require anything evil to use now that the stele are already set up and I'm bound to wak Ix.

They rely on political support and terror which have been degrading as we convince more of the secular system to forbid them from directly conducting executions, and slowly convert people to the way of mercy.

But there are a few particularly powerful ones who are pretty important, and whose disappearance would help a lot as long as they didn't become sympathetic martyrs."

"They don't realize what they are doing is wrong... mostly, and the ones that do are hurt themselves."

"Darth Vitiate was a Sith Lord and the Order of Sith Lords is illegal under New Republic law because they're not actually any different from the Empire, the Jedi Council can arrest anyone since the Windu Act because they are different in that they have no brains, Skywalker's the last Jedi, he appoints himself to the Council and arrests you for collaboration and forbids you from returning why am I helping."

"Thank you, Mara. You're doing a good thing - I'm sorry, I didn't get your name - and we'll help you if we get off this rock. Even very hurt people can change."

"My full name is penitent Bat Qayin Kryptos Violet of Trismegistus Lesbiakos — lajchaʼ bʼaktuun, waxaklajuun kʼatuun, oxlajuun tuun, wuk winaal, kanlajuun kʼiin; wak Ix, wuk Yax — ór fyrirsát Skarð; Prōtos. But you can call me any combination of penitent, Ix, or Violet.

I would love it if the inquisition were to change, but they were burning people for centuries before we showed up, and don't even get me started on Neo Roma over on the other side of the Theta hill.

If we were to be arrested it would be a diplomatic incident to be resolved diplomatically by people who aren't me but might include my relatives. Who are officially more qualified to deal with that than the Inquisition."

"I'm Chuk Tan, or prisoner Baaka oox pik jun bak lajun kaal jun."

"Thank you, Violet. It doesn't matter how many centuries they've been doing it, they could stop tomorrow. Or right now! What are your relatives like?"

He might, just possibly, be too sceptical of mysterious powerful relatives, what with all the trauma. He does his best to let the trauma bleed away into the Force. It doesn't actually change anything, after all. In the end, it's just another attachment without an end, a fist clenched around grief.
