Amina was an obvious pick to be a cleric - determined and compassionate, she would help others no matter the cost. After she received her first circle from Sarenrae she moved from her small village to the Temple of the Shining Star in Absalom to learn how to be a proper priest. She still felt a bit like an outsider here but she was sure she'd make friends in time.
Amina's task for the day was to find a divine focus that suited her from the temple's archives, something that felt right. She was supposed to have found one yesterday but none of the symbols felt right to her, they all felt too ... pointy. Still she was sure she'd find something right if she just went deep enough into the archives.
What about this figurine of a man, encircled by a ring? It glints with a strange darkness, beckoning.
That... does seem oddly pretty. But it doesn't seem like a divine focus of Sarenrae? There's no angel bits or pointy righteous swordy bits.
She should still try it out as a divine focus to check. After all, it would make such a very very pretty one.
Already feeling oddly peaceful, she relaxes her mind further - inviting the divine light of Sarenrae into her soul.
The mysterious figurine is nearby, on the nightstand. Its tugging at Amina's soul a dim pain.
Amina is pretty sure this is not how using a divine focus is supposed to work.
"Hrmph, what ha-"
Amina notices the High Priestess in front of her, and falls silent.
"I'm going to need you to focus Amina. I know it's hard but this is important."
High Priestess Philaenia's face is serious, her voice the calm before a battle.
"You stumbled on a cursed object in the archives, something of dark and dangerous witchcraft. Can you feel where it is right now?"
Amina points to the nightstand, realizing only while doing so that the figurine isn't on it.
Philaenia walks over to the nightstand and pulls the figurine from the cabinet.
"That you can find it without seeing it confirms my fears - you have bonded."
"I didn't mean to - I didn't want -"
Amina hugs herself, shivering despite the warmth of the infirmary.
Oh, but you would have, it whispers in her heart.
The power I offer - the things we can accomplish - no one should want anything else.
I just... sped things up a bit.
