"No, it's definitely magic, if you try to follow a potion recipe without using magic you usually just get a bunch of useless glop."

"If we needed soup ingredients for potions then the alchemy cupboards would presumably have sourced them somehow but they'd've been raided by people who wanted soup."

"My understanding is that that's actually risky - there's occasions where you need taste to make sure you stop eating something you shouldn't - and that besides if you have fewer senses to work with the illusions on the food won't have as much to convince you with."

"Stop eating? And wouldn't the nutrient slurry be less horrible if you couldn't taste it?"

"One of the many ways you can die in the Scholomance is by eating things you should not eat. And if you can't taste, you can still smell - unless you can't even do that, and you're solely feeling the food - and those senses still need to be convinced that you are consuming something that is okay to eat, you want more sensory surface area for that, not less."
