"If you think you can't handle it, you can walk out at any time. No penalty." It is important to make sure the punishments are more severe if people are doing things you want them to do less. This is a lesson Tanidio learned from Chrisor.

"Yes, sir."

"And don't tell Bun we made this deal. Obviously."

"Yes, sir."

"Excellent. I look forward to working with you."

Normally, in Cheliax, if you bet on the dice and lose, then you get punished, and if you bet on the dice and win, then they want you to bet on the dice again because you won last time so you can do it again and if you don't it's just cowardice. Therefore, there is a natural tendency to not take bets. It's all downside.

Inquisitor Chrisor doesn't judge your bets based on whether you won. He judges your bets based on whether this was a smart dice roll to bet on.

Tanidio thinks this is a smart dice roll to bet on.

Imelda knows absolutely nothing about the world. She maintains the lies not because she is capable of keeping track of them but because she has no idea which way things are supposed to be. If she fucks it up, he thinks he can recover, because Bun is not going to believe she's an accurate source on sociology.

She's had a miserable life, but htat means nothing. Street kids are mistreated everywhere in the world.

And-- when they fuck up, because they're inevitably going to fuck up, when Bun gets suspicious-- well, isn't it going to make him less suspicious, that he spent a bunch of time with a totally randomly selected girl who obviously couldn't have been briefed on anything.

He doesn't like it when people can be useful and then they're wasted. He doesn't think of this as a weakness. Asmodeus doesn't want to waste perfectly good people either.

He heads to the kitchens and kisses Bun on the cheek.

The servants are still not entirely used to the fact Bun keeps going into the kitchen and making things. "I hope you like omelettes."

"Unfortunately, being a Worldwound wizard means being so very very sick of eggs. Even Prestidigitation can only do so much."

...Oh dear. "I can make you something else. We still need to feed the girl."

"Life sucks and then you go to Hell, I'll take the eggs."

Then he can have as many eggs as he wants!

"Let's take the eggs to the girl." Showtime.

Fuuuuuuuck Cayden can't watch.

It's good that she seems to still be around, and that Tanidio isn't kicking her out into the cold. (He does have an argument prepared about how the best treatment for malnourishment is food.)

The girl is awake and sitting up. "Hello," she says, anxiously.

Come on, girl, be as good at this as Tanidio wants you to be, don't make him break a tool that he could have used--

Talking to anxious children mode: activate! "Hello." He hands her a small plate of omelette. "I'm Dr Bun. Would you like to give me your name?"

"Imelda."

She does not care about Bun. She cares about eggs. Bun is not eggs.

Incredibly reasonable! And it's good she still has an appetite. "Do you have anyone that's looking after you?"

"No, sir."

"If you want to, you can stay here for awhile." Do not gainsay him on this, Tanidio.

He wouldn't dream of it.

Imelda looks at him with incredible suspicion.
