Markus wakes up.
It's a slow thing, but yes. He passes a while three-quarters asleep; he hasn't exactly spent the past few weeks in an ideal sleep environment and he's gotten a lot of practice tuning out little sounds and bumps. There aren't any of those, here, but the inclination to ignore the state of being partially awake remains.
What gets to him eventually is the light. The cell was overall extremely dim, and furthermore lit with fake candlelight. Very orange, very warm.
Here it's - bluer - and as soon as that thought processes, his eyes open automatically and his brain is racing to load context.
Did they escape? Was he moved while he was unconscious aga -
...He was not really expecting to have any more experiences, ever again.
He pats himself on the chest; feels solid. Sits up and presses a hand down on the bed; the covers move. No bloodstain on the duvet when he turns around.
No pain.... But shoes on, even in a bed. What does that mean.
And a hexagonal screen; isn't that interesting.
He should really be considering whether he needs to try and very quickly convert to a religion, but - sunlight - and a breeze -
Okay, no, it's possible that very quickly converting to a religion is necessary in order to maintain access to sunlight and breezes. Being kidnapped was more than enough of a taste of hell already, thank you.
Catholicism: Points to that because Val believes in it and he respects her, but if it's true he's probably already damned.
Some kind of Protestantism: Seems worth attempting a prayer about. (Why would there be hexagon window screens in heaven judgement?)
Mormonism: ???? (From what he knows, it doesn't seem at-face absurd that there might be hexagon window screens. But that's not much.)
Greek Paganism: Well, there's the whole 'Children of Asclepius' thing people say about those with the healing touch. Probably also worth a prayer.
Buddhism: ...His score here is spiky but also it's probably not high stakes to get himself set right now, if it's true.
Hinduism: Similar situation.
The nebulous spiritualism that he already sort of has: Probably nothing he can do now will make a difference.
Utilitarian heaven/hell setup: ...Well -
Prayer time it is.
Dear - whatever's out there - I apologize if I've offended you through lack of belief. I have dedicated my life to the preservation of others'. I'm sorry for the wrong I've done. I think it's pretty straightforward to understand why torturing people is wrong, and I ask that you don't do that to me. ...Amen.
Here he is! He drops off as soon as Markus appears at the corner. "Hi, Dr. Vaughn! Hope you're feeling alright."
"...There are a lot of ways I could answer that question. You've been resurrected onto a planetoid in a pocket dimension by some members of a powerful multiversal society."
"- Oh. I - see." That seems like pretty good news, both for his personal likelihood of getting tortured and for the state of medicine, of causing people to not have problems with their bodies that prevent them from living their lives.
