Over by the snack table a blonde esper is chatting with another esper over the cheeses.
"Right? I could port in places and shoot things but I'm not any better at it than anyone else."
(This is a bit of a lie, Jamie is very good at shooting things, but it's still not his best use, he knows.)
"Ly draws attention and tanks hits, and Lyra makes things brittle, they're much better for dungeons than me."
"If you're a teleporter with the range to do cargo than that's a much better use of your time."
"'xactly. You want my card in case you ever need cargo moved? We're not really compatible but that doesn't mean we can't help each other out."
Behold! A card is produced from somewhere! Jamie offers the slip of cardstock to her with a flourish.
"I'm Jamie, by the way," he says; the card says Jamie :3.
"Nice to meet you! Hopefully you'll have better luck with someone else here? Either way, at least the snacks are good, right?"
"It's not the only reason I'm here, but it's definitely a factor! I just like meeting people."
He omf's a piece of cheese upon concluding this sentence.
"I've never been to this city before so I'm using this as an excuse to do a little sightseeing."
"We were doing that too! Lyra hates being stuck in Winnipeg, not that I blame her, I love a vacation. We saw some shows, went to a couple museums. It's a little warmer here, too, it's been nice to be able to go out in less layers; winter's been early this year back home."
"Well, I'm happy being based in one place most of the time but a vacation is nice once and a while."
"My power's all about going to different places, but it's nice to have a home base. I see what she means about Winnipeg, though. It's a lot harder to take living somewhere you think is boring when you can't escape in the blink of an eye."
"I guess I've never had to live somewhere I didn't want to. And it's hard to get bored of Toronto. Unless you're bored of cities in general."
"We're probably gonna move once the contract's up, maybe Toronto or Vancouver or something. Not like we can't just port into Winnipeg if needed, but we're supposed to live local for the rest of 2036."
"Well if you're in Toronto maybe we'll run into each other again, or I'll run into your partners in a dungeon."
"Maybe! I get called to dungeons for emergencies sometimes, too, so maybe we'll both end up at the same one. Either way, nice to meet you! Good luck on the floor," he waves with his free hand, the other being full of a napkin covered in fancy cheeses.
