Not that I don't get where OP is coming from but tbc nobody is making us go to esper meetups? It's just a prereq for figuring out what our powers are safely, and most of us want to do that after going through the week of hypertorture.

#I waited almost two weeks to go to my first mixer #and my understanding that lots of us wait longer? #my partner definitely did lol #but I've never been a patient girlie #but yeah they should have just given me crayons :( #I'm not 25 yet so my brain hasn't fully developed :((

my partner awakened at 16 and he's never really mentioned any skeeviness, but I guess he might have been protected by having family in the industry already. I've never noticed anything really bad, either, but I am reliably informed I'm bad at noticing this kinda thing!

anyway i don't know op that well and neither she or i are espers but i think people in this thread are treating her take as a lot more totalizing than it actually is. like its good that skeezy shit hasn't happened to you and maybe a lot of other espers share that experience, but i agree with 4d that the whole thing is like......... it could be skeezy so easily. skeezy people are gonna see this shit and want in on it. and i think the temptation to crisply categorize relationships into Healthy and Abusive, or experiences into Voluntary and Nonconsensual, or people into Mature and Immature, is destructive to certain kinds of awareness of potential unhealthy dynamics that can exist in a space like the esper industry. and i think the ability to step back and say, all of the individual principles and arguments and analogies that led us here are each individually sensible, but the vibes here are still kind of rancid, is a valuable way to push back on that
