"That's what I've been practicing for."

"You'll do great, then."

"That's the plan."

"A good night's sleep will help." She goes to start collecting the books she wants to take with her. "I'm sure you can keep that if you want," she says with a gesture at The Lives of Saints.

"...I think I will," she says, closing it.

"Should I keep an eye out for books to recommend to you?"

"That would be good of you."

"Will do, then."

Then off to bed for them both. Until the next day.

Genya raps sharply on Svetka's door early the next morning. 

"Come 'n..." she calls sleepily.

She does so. "You have a meeting with the king early this afternoon," she says, tone as brusque as always. "Since you object to servants, you will need to start getting ready early."

"This early?"

"Yes. We also need to ensure your uniform fits well, in time for alterations to be made if needed."

"You'll be glad I'm not rushing you later."

"If you say so." She sits up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

She sets a stack of packages on the counter and takes underclothes and a uniform out of one. It looks very much like a ridiculous parade outfit for an officer. "Put these on," she says. 

"Uh." She looks at the uniform with a skeptical eye. "Are you- sure?"

"I'm sure that's what the King expects to see, and that I need to check its fit."

"The King should spend more time in a muddy camp," she grumbles, but rises to begin dressing.

She'd be overall more on board with this getup if it could make up its mind whether it wants to be a lacy dress or an actual military uniform. Somehow it manages to combine the worst features of both.

"I'd feel bad for the soldiers babysitting him if he did."

The outfit at least doesn't require too much help getting into. Genya tugs at it, has Svetka move her arms and walk around and bow, and then declares that it fits. 

Oh good.

What's next?

Taking that off, and then taking another bath, of course. 

Two baths in two days. And she hasn't even been outside.

"Welcome to palace life."

This is an even longer bath, too. There's a lot of treatments Genya needs to do to her hair - somewhat less if Svetka will at least let Genya Tailor away any split ends or the like. 

That sounds okay by her.
