The maleficer who killed several freshman was captured.

Jeremy heard the rumor in one of his classes, first, from a girl who said she'd been sitting with the Jaipur enclave, and that she wasn't positive either way, she just thought it was likely. He didn't want to trust the rumor just off of that, but by lunchtime it seems to have trickled down to the freshman as something more definite, a Chinese kid named Xue Yang, though the rumors contradict each other on how exactly he was caught -- maybe whoever caught him doesn't want to give away their secret? Or maybe more than one of the rumors is true, and multiple enclaves are trying to take sole credit? Either way, all of them agree that the maleficer has been caught and killed.

In any case, Jeremy is certainly a lot happier now that the risk of the Random Freshman Idiot Maleficer has been dealt with. He's smiling, at lunch, and one of the people at his table gives him a quizzical look. "They caught the maleficer," he says, and she grins back at him.
