He cannot, at least immediately, copy the owl's wings at human scale and on his back without replacing his arms.  So that's sad.

He checks that the owl doesn't have a visible name tag.  "What's your name?"

"His name's Torus," says Bartra, petting the owl again.

"On Citrelia, only humans are people."

"He's my familiar," Bartra says. "Not too bright yet but not just a regular owl out of the woods."

(Yeah, this is enough to get Feradi too distracted to deal.)

"Are there other types of people?"

"...sure?" He looks around. "There's the nearest half-orc."

"...Huh."  And poking at it, yeah, it's hard to say but this does sort of have the feel of fundamental difference and not just a human who underwent some changes.  - Oooh, darkvision.  "What else?"

"There's a couple tieflings. Nothing else here at the fort besides more familiars but if you see enough adventurers pass through there's sometimes oddities. Elves and aasimars and shit."

What are those.  Oh, those are those.  Wow.

Feradi recovers enough to play his cards.  Only two of them, now.  He points to Aten.

Anti four, to keep them all the same suit.  "What's it like, being a wizard?  We don't have those back home either."

Bartra makes a guess. "Have to be good at math and can't have shaky hands."

Point to Bartra.  "Sounds like what you need, not what it's like."

Shrug. "Gotta do all that math we gotta be good at, to cast spells. Spend a lot of time on cantrip duty."

Next hand is Bartra first.  "More or fewer patrols than everyone else?"

"Wizards in general? Same requirements. Artigas doesn't make it hard to move squads if you want one that's angling for more circles and calluses or the other way 'round though."

And how is he -

"And how is he?  As a commander."  Card play.  (Feradi takes all four.)

Oh that disproves one of Bartra's tentative sub-hypotheses, fascinating - "Better'n my last one. Gets in his own way less."

"And how did your last one do that?"

"Eh - he's two forts down, I'm still over there sometimes."

Hm?  (Fia makes the connection.)  Oh.  Nod.

"Anything we should know to make a good second impression, here?"  (Four to Feradi again.)

"Mostly just don't fuck around 'n be suspicious."

"Well, we can try."
