Alexius has a lot of recently-acquired spells to study, and not all of them are in-affinity. The library's as good a place as any to work on them. This year, the Jacksonville nonclave has just barely managed to stake out a coffee table, an unmatched set of creaky wooden chairs, and a futon with shredded upholstery. Alexius finds a nook in the far corner - close enough to be in mal-zapping range of the upperclassmen, far enough not to have to actually interact with them.
Jeremy is hardly going to walk up to random enclavers in the main reading room. Most of the time, he's not even going to be in the main reading room at all, but the reference text on poetry he needs is currently right there, so he figures he can grab it and take it back to his study area.
He's just turning to go when he trips on the edge of someone's bag and falls, barely managing to catch himself without dropping the book. He looks up at the person he tripped in front of -- an enclaver, great. Well, he can try not to make things worse, at least, and hopefully the enclaver won't resent him too much.
"Sorry! Sorry."
Alexius starts in alarm at the sudden movement, hand darting to a knife at his side. A quick glance reveals nothing but an extremely apologetic non-mal, so Alexius relaxes. "No worries. Are you okay?"
Oh my God is that a knife is he about to get stabbed -- no, wait, the enclaver's putting away the knife, probably he was just spooked.
"Yeah, I'm fine -- sorry."
Oh good. Alexius is glad he did not inadvertently give some kid a sprained ankle. In the Scholomance that's like 10% of a death sentence. "It's okay, just a startle. Find what you were looking for?" He nods at the book.
"Yeah. --The title's partly German, I'm not sure if you have that. It's for my poetry class."
That was probably more information than the enclaver actually wanted but hopefully it'll be okay.
"Sadly I don't have German yet, but it's on the list. I'd best not look too hard, though, once it gets in my memory there's no getting it out again. You have any interest in spell trading?"
He blinks. "Um, sure -- what languages do you have, I'm spell-competent in English, German, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Latin."
He pulls out a few lists of spells from his backpack, one for each language listed -- just their names, he has the spells themselves written down separately.
"Is there anything in particular you're looking for? I'm glass affinity, I've got a really useful one for making glass more resilient, though it might be a bit tricky out of affinity, or my sister's got some really useful spells from her mind affinity although most of those are too mana-intensive to be practical for me, or I've picked up some from my classes that are useful in specific circumstances, like one that's good for helping you climb things, or one that doesn't take much mana that's good for slowing mals down, or this really cool one that makes you feel a little luckier, that one's obviously risky in the wrong circumstances but it can be good if you're working on a project or a spell or something and you need to believe it'll work--"
He's rambling. Probably the enclaver is not actually impressed with rambling, which means he should stop.
"Sadly not a lot of overlap in glass, but mind is good," says the Totally an Enclaver for Reals, who seems uninclined to call out anyone's rambling or lack thereof. "My affinity is myself, but it hates everything else. Oh, I'm Alexius, by the way. Jacksonville.
"Climbing's handy and luck sounds intriguing, can you tell me more about that one? I've got a decent array of self-buffs including a few mind-affecting ones."
